The Clube dos Marimbas, in Copacabana, was the venue chosen for the launch of “Tax Free: Effects on Consumption, Tourist Attractiveness and the Economic Development of a Destination”, authored by former federal deputy Otavio Leite and published by Senac Rio de Janeiro Publishing House. The event marked not only the arrival of a new work in the publishing market but also the strengthening of a central debate for Brazil’s tourism economy.
Bringing together hundreds of guests, including family members, friends, business leaders, public officials and representatives of the tourism trade, the evening was marked by emotional speeches and an atmosphere of enthusiasm around the ideas presented in the book. With his well-known trajectory in defense of tourism and sustainable economic development, Leite highlighted that the aim of the publication is to provide a comprehensive view of how tax refund policies can boost consumption, make destinations more competitive, and generate jobs and income.
“It is essential to understand that Tax Free is not just a benefit for visitors, but a strategy for economic promotion and for strengthening the image of a destination in the international market,” said the author as he signed copies and spoke with the guests.
During the ceremony, Otavio Leite was also awarded the title of Doctor in Tourism by the University of Aveiro, in Portugal. The distinction was presented by Professor Carlos Costa, an international reference in the field, and by Alexandre Panosso, coordinator of the doctoral program in Tourism at the University of São Paulo (USP). The honor highlights his intellectual and practical contributions to strengthening the tourism industry and confirms his role as one of the leading voices in shaping policies and strategies for the sector.

Published by Senac Rio de Janeiro Publishing House, the book aims to be a reference for public managers, academics, and professionals in the sector, offering tables, comparative data, analyses, and proposals that can support innovative public policies. The work reaches the market at a timely moment, as Brazil seeks new ways to attract international visitors and increase its global tourism competitiveness. The launch reaffirms Otavio Leite’s leading role in the debate on tourism and the economy, consolidating his intellectual contribution to a sector that generates millions of jobs and represents a significant share of Brazil’s GDP.
