The band Cigarros Molhados arrives in high volume with the release of the single “Os Cigarros Molhados”, which lands on all music streaming platforms on December 12th, via Marã Música. The track functions as a declaration of identity: confident, cool, and full of the energy of those who know exactly the space they want to occupy. With the repetition of their own name and the direct invitation to “grab the lighter”, the group creates a true call for the public to enter their urban, nocturnal, and free vibe.

Musically, the single translates the essence that has accompanied the band from the beginning. Defined by the members themselves as a “funky à la punk” sound, “Os Cigarros Molhados” mixes rhythms, attitude, and irreverence naturally, creating a sound that breaks patterns without losing its sense of fun. The track carries the vibe of the street, party, and freedom, reflecting a new, bolder, more vibrant phase, conscious of its aesthetic strength.

The lyrics wander through the city with sharp humor, seduction, and detachment, always from a light and provocative standpoint. The chorus — “I’m chilling, bro, just cruising around town / Cigarettes don’t have an expiration date” — synthesizes the band’s spirit: unbridled energy, attitude, fun, and the certainty that their essence doesn’t wear out with time. With high expectations, the group celebrates the release as an anthem of celebration and identity, inviting the public to embark on this intense and unrestrained phase.

“Os Cigarros Molhados” repeats the band’s name like a mantra. At what point did you realize that this track could function almost as an anthem of identity and introduction to the public?

When we started rehearsing the groove and the chorus clicked, we realized the weight of the phrase went beyond just being a part of the song. It summed up our attitude: we are who we are, we’re here to stay. The audience needs to know who we are and what our vibe is, and this track delivers that directly, almost like an energetic business card. It worked as an anthem from the very first rehearsal.

The sound you call “funky à la punk” is bold and, at the same time, very unique. How did this fusion of rhythms and styles originate within the band? Was it intuitive or a conscious search for something out of the ordinary?

It was a mix of intuition and the search for something that sounded like us. Everyone in the band comes from very different backgrounds – some love the heaviness of classic rock, some enjoy the beat of 90s funk, and some are obsessed with post-punk. This song, in particular, was born when we decided to stop worrying about genres and just play what made our heads bob. Funky brought the swing and swagger we wanted to talk about the streets, and punk injected raw energy and irreverence. We didn’t want to sound like just another rock band, and ‘funky à la punk’ is our way of saying: ‘we’re here to shake things up with style.’

The lyrics portray this urban journey full of attitude, freedom, seduction, and detachment. What real-life experiences, from the streets or the night, inspired this highly visual narrative?

The inspiration is 100% the chaos and energy of the early morning hours. It’s cruising in the car with friends, the street turning into our improvised dance floor. This narrative of seeing the redhead or the blonde dancing, of ‘her dad said no, but she can’t stop,’ is about that feeling of untamed freedom that only a night in the big city gives you. It’s the story of someone who’s ‘chilling, bro,’ but ready for whatever comes. The references are very visual because the street and the night are very visual – we want the listener to feel like they’re in the back of our ‘funky-mobile’ cruising around.

The refrain says that “Cigarettes don’t have an expiration date.” In your view, what makes the band’s identity so enduring and resistant to current trends?

Our longevity comes from our authenticity and our refusal to be labeled. If you try to fit us into a ‘trend,’ you won’t succeed. We honestly mix elements we like. The groove never goes out of style, the attitude never goes out of style. Furthermore, ‘not having an expiration date’ is a commitment to energy: we want our music to sound fresh and relevant ten years from now, whether it’s the beat or the irreverent attitude.

This new phase of the band seems bolder, more confident, and more vibrant. What has changed—musically and personally—since your beginnings in 2023 until this release?

Since 2023, what has changed the most is our confidence. In the beginning, we were discovering our sound, trying to please here and there. Now, we’ve found ourselves. Musically, this translates into bolder arrangements, more groove, and more weight. We’re more confident in embracing this identity and pushing the boundaries, which results in the vibe and boldness you perceive.

You blend social, political, and environmental critique with humor and irreverence. How do you balance this desire to address serious issues with the lightness and energy that characterize your sound?

Humor and irreverence are our main weapons. Life is already heavy enough without just lamenting. We use the contagious energy of our sound to make the audience feel good, but with a nagging thought. For example, the phrase ‘Tempestade em copo d’água, drink de Saddam Hussein’ in this song is an example of this: it’s an absurd and funny verse, but it hints at a critique of a certain excess and exaggeration in the world. We deliver the serious message packaged in a party atmosphere, so that the reflection arrives in a more digestible and memorable way.

The EP “Surfing the Chaos” is on its way. What does this single reveal about this new sonic and aesthetic phase for the band? What can fans expect from this next chapter?

‘Surfing the Chaos’ is our manifesto. The EP dives headfirst into this duality we love: dancing while the world is on fire. Fans can expect the dirtiest funk and the most danceable punk. Aesthetically, this phase is more vibrant, more street, and with a production that truly translates the weight and chaotic energy of our shows. It’s an invitation to enter our world, hang out with us, and literally surf the waves of everyday madness. It’s going to be the perfect soundtrack for those who are chilling, but also aware of everything.
