How have you been dealing with the difficulty of finding clothes your size in conventional stores? What were your biggest discoveries when exploring the children’s clothing section?
I usually don’t find it, and when I do I have to have it fixed until it’s my size. The price of clothes is much better. I usually have to mix children’s clothes with adult clothes, when I rarely find the ones that fit me.
In addition to the issue of clothes, how do you deal with the perceptions and treatments you receive in relation to your childhood appearance?
I tend to be treated like a child all the time, people even get scared when they see me driving a car. No one takes me seriously as an adult my age. No one is in favor of my decisions because of my appearance. Even my own family judges me.
What challenges do you face when you are treated differently or underestimated because of your appearance?
Driving a car for sure! People get scared or want to try to teach me how to drive my own car (laughs). I also have difficulty with relationships. On dates, people treat me like a teenager, and sometimes like a child.
How do you respond to people who might question your maturity or ability based on your appearance?
“You should stop judging by appearance and start looking at my actions and the things I’ve achieved.”
What strategies have you developed to maintain your self-confidence and face any negative or prejudiced comments?
I hang out with older people, so people don’t stop me on the street asking “where’s your mother?”.
Do you feel that the way people see you influences your opportunities and personal/professional relationships? How do you deal with it?
Yes, I’m a content creator like any other. I wear bikinis like any other female content creator, only people are all over me saying I “sexualize” myself. So now because of my appearance I shouldn’t wear a bikini? I can’t do adult things anymore? When I wear children’s clothes I’m totally judged, but I wear them because they’re the only ones that fit me! Stores don’t produce clothes that fit me!
What message would you like to convey to people who also face similar challenges due to appearance or perception of others?
If it depends on what others think, we’ll never be able to do anything an adult does. So just do it!
What are your future plans to use your influence to promote positive changes in society regarding diversity and respect for differences?
End prejudice and judgments, take my message to more people so that they learn not to judge by appearance.
