Revealing himself as a promise of Brazilian music, Nathan Carvalho is ready to make an impact on the music market with his latest release. “Vida Leve” will be available on all music platforms this Friday, May 19, and features production by none other than Renato Patriarca, Latin Grammy winner with Titãs.

Through his songwriting, Nathan brings poetry to his songs, and his self-written new single conveys a message of positivity and the importance of appreciating the little things in life. The music video, directed by Denner Reis and David Washington, from DW Filmes, seeks to portray the values conveyed by the song’s lyrics. “Vida Leve” is the third release of the EP “Novos Cantos”, which will have a total of four singles.

Nathan Carvalho was born in Caetité, a city located more than 600 kilometers from the capital Salvador, in the state of Bahia. His musical talent was discovered by producer Rick Bonadio during his Workshops, and since then the singer has gained prominence in the music scene. With more than 1.5 million plays on music platforms and collaborations with artists such as Vicka, revelation of pop MPB, and Gabriel Elias, co-author of several national successes and with participation in renowned festivals such as Rock in Rio and Planeta Atlântida, Nathan plans to take their shows, both acoustic and with a band, all over Brazil.

What was it like working with the renowned producer Renato Patriarca, winner of the Latin Grammy, in the production of “Vida Leve”? What inspired you to write the lyrics for “Vida Leve” and convey the message of positivity and valuing simplicity?

It is a great pleasure to be able to work with Renato, in addition to being an excellent producer he is a great human being, it is always a lesson and a moment of much learning when we work! He’s a guy who believes in my ideas and prioritizes the essence… with this period working together we created a friendship and harmony in the productions that are fundamental for the sound!

How was the experience of recording the video for “Vida Leve” and conveying the values of music through the images? What do you hope to achieve with this song? What is the core message you want to convey to the audience?

Unique experience that further strengthened the meaning of sound in my life. It’s about helping others, living lightly being a light in someone’s life, everything is more beautiful and makes sense when you have someone to share it with. We recorded a few takes at the civil society organization called Vida – Valorização Individual do Deficient Anonymous (LAR VIDA) also with the aim of publicizing this beautiful project and encouraging people to help others. After learning more about the initiative and visiting the project, I created a very strong connection with the guys there and I want to contribute to everyone’s journey in some way… Just as they contributed to mine. May this message reach people’s hearts in the best possible way and may we spread more and more good energy to the world.

How does the “Novos Cantos” EP connect with Brazilian identity and regionality, especially with the percussive characteristic you mentioned? What are your future plans regarding shows and live performances? Do you intend to take your music to other regions of Brazil?

The EP brings in layers – in the singles – what Nathan Carvalho is, the pulsation of reggae with the percussive touch of congas, surdos, agogô and among other instruments bring this Brazilian essence and freshness. The sounds bring different messages but that are born from the same root… Love. Loving life, loving the people who are with us on the way, loving time, always having faith. Firstly, I intend to work hard on this project to spread the message to people, consequently, I want to make music everywhere in Brazil 🙂

In addition to partnerships with Vicka and Gabriel Elias, do you have plans to collaborate with other artists in the future? How does your hometown, Caetité, in Bahia, influence your music and artistic style?

For sure! I was happy to make a sound with these two incredible artists who, in addition to being idols, became friends. If I could define the partnerships for the “dream album” in Nathan Carvalho’s life – hahaha – I would certainly have a feat with Saulo Fernandes, Falamansa and Maneva. Who knows, maybe soon it won’t roll, it would be an honor.

Caetité is living culture, since I was a little boy I used to go to musical events and watch the presentations always filled my eyes, from this influence, I also started to promote my own events in the city with the objective of praising the authorial scene, always with collaboration/participation from other artists. The thing about regionality, for sure, comes a lot from there.

What are your biggest musical inspirations and how have they shaped your journey as a singer-songwriter? How do you define Nathan Carvalho’s sound and musical style for those who are not yet familiar with your music?

Gabriel Elias, Saulo Fernandes, Falamansa and Maneva. These artists are my main references because of the essence, the message of the sounds, the originality with that Brazilian spice that I love so much. I define my style as Brasilidades, my roots are the Northeast, Bahia and the whole essence of the percussive thing is part of my DNA. The common thread is reggae with the spice of percussion, leading at times to xote and axé (samba-reggae). Vibe foot in the sand, light and, mainly, brazuca!
