How did the idea of re-recording the song “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None The Richer come about?
This was a song that marked my adolescence a lot, when I heard Kiss me on romantic comedy soundtracks. When I started my work with weddings, I always thought this would be a great song to indicate to couples, especially when kissing in wedding ceremonies. That’s why I ended up including it in my performance repertoire and as it’s always been a very requested song around here, I felt like registering it for streaming platforms.
What does this song represent to you and why did you choose to release it as the first single from your next album?
This song was included in a season of videos I recorded in 2016 for Youtube and this season reached many views. This further increased the affection I had for her. When I decided to invest in recording another work dedicated to my project “Música para Casar” for audio platforms, I thought of having it as the first single, mainly due to the time of release, which was on Valentine’s Day.
The album “Música Para Casar III” continues his work focused on wedding ceremonies. What can fans expect from this new project?
This album is being very important because it is marking a kind of post-pandemic resumption, with regard to my musical productions in relation to “Música para Casar”. The two years we stayed still and after, the delivery of many repressed events, completely changed the dynamics of our work with marriage. It was a challenge that I am very happy that we were able to meet in all our deliveries, including maintaining the quality of our work, even though there were many changes with regard to market dynamics, the team of musicians and colleagues who worked with me in the pre- pandemic. Most of the team took other paths because of all this and it was necessary to bring in other talents to work with me. The repertoire of reinterpretations had been forwarded for some time in relation to the copyright of the songs, but we only managed to find time in the recording schedule at the beginning of this year. He is marking a new musical phase, with new partnerships. The album continues with the essence of Música para Casar, with an emphasis on the most delicate arrangements, with the presence of strings and instruments such as the Harp, to give a magical touch to the sound.
Besides “Kiss Me”, what other songs will be featured on the new album and why did you choose those songs?
It was difficult to close the songs to create the identity of the album because I had a repertoire with very different songs in terms of style and for that reason, I ended up choosing to leave this work only with the international songs in the English language. There are 07 tracks: Blackbird, What a wonderful world, Fly me to the moon, Yellow, Wouldn’t it be nice, Kiss me and Close to you. They are songs that I love and that are “classics” that we do a lot at ceremonies and that will now have our version immortalized in this work.
How was the process of making the album, especially considering the combination of classic and popular elements in your songs?
This was the first job where I ended up getting a little less involved in music production due to time and the rush of events. The person responsible for arranging the songs was the guitarist who works with me at the weddings, Iury Cardoso, and who has a musical background very much based on classical study and orchestration. Each note is carefully thought out. The essence of the arrangements comes from our weekly presentation work at weddings where we use the guitar a lot as a basis and add string instruments (violin, cello, harp) to complement the arrangements and bring this more “classic” look. We had some labs to close the essential ideas of the songs, instrumentations that we would use in each of the tracks and moods that we would like to create,
You mentioned that pop music and the classical approach are pillars of your work. How do you balance these two elements in your interpretations?
I ended up listening to a lot of classical music as a result of the influence of my family, which has many pianists, mainly. I ended up learning piano at a very young age and having access to this repertoire of classical studies, which gave me a very special foundation. POP music has always fascinated me and when I entered this world of wedding ceremonies, in 2010, I was one of the first companies to offer couples something different from what wedding orchestras and choirs offered: the possibility of customizing the repertoire with songs that couples listened to in their daily lives and that marked their history, but bringing more sophisticated arrangements to this repertoire, with string instruments, with the harp, in order to leave that more popular music with a new look, that would fit more inside from the time of marriage, which is a moment of great emotion and romance. For work, I really like to remove the excesses translated by the musical style of the original songs, working more on the essence of the lyrics and melody of the song. Therefore, we took liberty to change harmonies, instrumentations, in order to bring the universe of that music to something more classic and romantic.
You already had the opportunity to perform alongside big names in Brazilian music. How did these experiences influence your career and your way of interpreting songs?
When I was younger, I had the joy of sharing the stage with some artists that I admire a lot, such as Ivan Lins, Elba Ramalho, Leoni and now, with my wedding work, I was lucky to sing accompanied by incredible musicians, in addition to having resumed contact with a very dear childhood friend, Leandro Leo… This type of exchange and connection is always very rich and certainly these are experiences that feed me a lot. I really like talking with the artists, with the musicians who work with me, understanding their values and their relationship with music. When you share the stage with someone, I feel like you share so much more than just the music. In addition to all the energy, in these exchanges you can access something magical that ends up translating the artist’s values, especially with regard to generosity.
In addition to your music career, you’ve also acted in television shows and soap operas. How did these experiences in the entertainment world influence your artistic path?
I ended up having a very professional musical experience in the artistic environment since I was a child, when I worked on TV shows and soap operas. In addition to all the artistic experience acquired, I think that one of the best legacies of this period was precisely this more professional look at the craft. When I entered the wedding music scene, I found a lot of informality, lack of commitment to the musical work and it was certainly a differential of my work the interest in making my musical product as professional as possible, both to value my work and to bring more security to the bride and groom who hired us. And that was certainly something that greatly influenced my trajectory because it enabled growth in the market and consequently my artistic maturation from that. We ended up producing a lot of audiovisual content, producing shows, albums. Something unheard of within the wedding music scene. And this experience ended up coming from this stage of work on TV.
How is the experience of reinventing yourself and exploring different musical styles, as we saw in your live EP with songs from Olodum, soundtracks from series and classics like “Just the Two of Us”?
It was a delight to be able to venture into other sounds and I hope to be able to do this more and more. It’s been 14 years singing at wedding ceremonies and I feel that, to assert myself and put myself on the market, I bet a lot on the same sound for my project “Música para Casar”, because it’s the sound I believe in for the moment of the wedding ceremony. marriage. However, for some time now, we have been increasingly invited to play at cocktail parties, dinners, corporate events, and that was incredible because it ended up opening me up to new repertoires and new sounds. When ONERPM invited me to record a session in their studio, I ended up allowing myself to explore other sounds and repertoires and the receptiveness of my audience was very nice, who even started asking for the songs for the receptive moments of the ceremonies.
What do you hope to achieve with the release of “Música Para Casar III” and what are your future plans in music?
I hope that this album can serve as more inspiration for couples who are looking for soundtracks for their weddings and that our versions are the soundtrack of the daily lives of these couples and of those who most enjoy listening to music in these more delicate and acoustic guises. A really nice surprise has been to see our versions go beyond the wedding universe a little and be used in home videos, being a soundtrack of moments in people’s lives (I love watching stories and reels with our background music). If that happens, I’ll be super happy!
My plans for music are to continue creating versions and songs for “Música para Casar”, intensify the releases of this work and, at the same time, invest in other sounds and partnerships. In 2024, I’m going to launch my first work dedicated to the children’s universe and I’m super excited about this project.
