Actor Ronan Horta was one of the nominees in the Best Supporting Actor category, alongside big names such as Gabriel Braga Nunes and Chico Diaz, for his outstanding performance in the film “Horizonte,” at the 16th edition of the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival (LABRFF), held recently at “The Curver Theater.”
For Ronan, taking part in events like LABRFF is extremely important for national cinema and art. He describes the festival as a true artistic encounter and a high-level cultural exchange.
“Horizonte,” directed by Rafael Calomeni, tells the story of an elderly couple who rediscover love in an institution for the elderly. Ronan plays the role of “Juarez,” the nephew of the protagonist played by Raymundo de Souza. To play this character, the actor had to gain ten kilos for the part. The film has a strong cast, including Pérola Faria, Alexandra Richter and Suely Franco.
The Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival (LABRFF), conceived in 2008 by Meire Fernandes, is considered one of the most prestigious festivals on the film scene. This is not Ronan is taking part in the festival for the first time, having previously presented the short film he wrote and directed, entitled “Frenetic Reality.”
