At the beginning of the month, singer Douglas de Oliveira presented his new work song entitled “Sentimentos”, released by the Central Gospel Music label.
The inspration would have come from a moment of internal conflicts with his feelings, which he believed that everyone goes through. That was one of the hardest songs he wrote.
According to Douglas, the song’s message moved the audience, and he hoped that all his listeners on digital platforms could experience the same as him during the recording of this project. Central Gospel Music also made the video for “Sentimentos” available on its YouTube channel.
How would you describe your new single, “Feelings”, and what message does it convey?
This song is very deep and real. I think the main message is that our feelings are fleeting, but God’s love is not.
What was the songwriting process like? What were your main sources of inspiration?
I always write my songs based on what I lived and went through. My inspiration for this song was my most difficult experiences. When I returned to live in Brazil, after three years living abroad, I felt that I was losing everything I had achieved, but God showed me that He brought me to live what He wanted for me and that was enough. Understanding that this can hurt a lot, but it’s freeing!
Can you tell us a little about the video for “Sentimentos” and what it was like to work with director Felipe Arcanjo?
The idea for the video for the song “Sentimentos” was well defined by me and my producer Felipe Arcanjo. We wanted to convey the idea of two feelings, the good feelings that lift us up and the heavier and more difficult feelings. And we managed to pass that on to the details of the clip, such as lights, expressions and movements. It was very subtle and very beautiful.
What were the main challenges you faced while recording the clip?
I think trying to express both sides of feelings (good and bad) I think was the most challenging part. We didn’t want it to be so obvious, but to convey the idea that when we feel something, only those who know us well understand what we’re going through. Watching the clip, you can see the changes in the face and the good feelings overcoming the bad when God speaks.
You’ve already released other songs by Central Gospel Music, such as “Glória” and “Por Amor”. How does “Feelings” differ from these other songs?
The song sentiments was not in my plans to record, it was something very mine, very intimate, but I felt that God wanted to shout this message.
You mentioned that the song was written in a time of inner conflict with your feelings. How do you believe your music can help others who are going through similar situations?
I believe that all people go through difficult times and conflicting feelings. This song speaks directly to our heart bringing calm and certainty that God is taking care of all things.
How has your experience with Central Gospel Music been since you were hired in 2022?
It’s been wonderful to work with thoughtful people, who help me a lot with each project that comes out.
You mentioned that you are looking into the idea of doing a live recording for your next project through Central Gospel Music. Can you give us a spoiler about what we can expect from this project?
I’m a singer in my local church and I think people will be able to understand a little more of my essence and origin when they hear these songs live. We are working hard to convey all this emotion to those who are watching. Get ready for a very beautiful project coming in the next few months.
