Maria Carolina Basilio tells the experience of living the character Rosa in “Terra e Paixão”

Born on June 14th, Maria Carolina Basilio is a talented young woman who is making her mark in the acting world. With her dedication, focus and happiness in everything she does, she has accumulated a variety of works and experiences in the arts and acting. Currently, Maria Carolina shines as the character Rosa in the 21:00 soap opera on TV Globo, entitled “Terra e Paixão”.

Maria Carolina’s interest in acting arose at the age of four, when she showed a curiosity for longer films. Joining a talent agency, her talent immediately drew attention to her smarts and communicative ability. Her first audition was for a children’s soap opera, in which her excellent attention span carried her through the final stages. From that moment on, Maria Carolina began her studies in theatre, television and cinema.

Throughout her career, Maria Carolina accumulated important works in her curriculum, including the interpretation of the character Prisca in the soap opera “Nos Tempos do Imperador” and her participation in the film “A Vida Invisível”, pre-nominated for an Oscar and winner of the main prize from the Un Certain Regard show in Cannes. In the film, Maria Carolina gave life to the character Cecília, daughter of the protagonist Eurídice Gusmão. She also shone in the third season of the series “Under Pressure” as Raquel and played the role of Gretl in the musical “A Noviça Rebelde”. In addition, Maria Carolina was part of the miniseries “Os Dias Eram Assim”, playing the character Gabriela.

Maria Carolina Basilio, how did you start your artistic career? Could you share with us the first steps and experiences that shaped your trajectory in the different forms of artistic representation?

My artistic career began at the age of four, when I auditioned for a children’s soap opera on a major broadcaster. Surprisingly, I advanced in the final stages of the selection process. It was at that moment that they realized my potential as a smart and communicative child. I was lucky to have professor Victor Ferrade, who prepared me for that first test and recognized my ability.

Later, I started to study television and cinema with Victor, and theater with Cristina Bethencout. Soon after, I won my first big job on TV Globo, playing the character Gabriela in the superseries “Os Dias Eram Assim”. Since then, I have continued to improve my skills in the areas of theater, television and film, in addition to dedicating myself to the study of guitar, English, ukulele and keyboard.

What are the outstanding works you’ve done so far, Maria Carolina Basilio? Could you tell us more about these defining experiences in your career?

I highlight my participation in the superseries “Os Dias Eram Assim”, playing the character Gabriela. It was my first big job and I had the opportunity to meet Susana Vieira, with whom I developed a strong emotional bond. Now, we meet again in “Terra e Paixão”. Another outstanding work was in the musical “A Noviça Rebelde”. Participating in this project was a unique experience, with many rehearsals and a team that became a real family. Moeller and Botelho, references in the world of musicals, made this role of Gretl a real gift for me.

In the film “A Vida Invisível”, in which you participated, there was international recognition, with a pre-nomination for an Oscar and winning the main prize at the Un Certain Regard show in Cannes. Could you tell us more about this experience and what it was like to be part of this project?

To be part of such a grand project at such a young age is incredible and I am extremely grateful for it. Working with director Karim Ainöuz and having the opportunity to meet Fernanda Montenegro are invaluable privileges. Being in the same film as Fernanda Montenegro is a true honor that art has given me.

Which character did you play in the musical “A Noviça Rebelde”, Maria Carolina Basilio? Could you share with us about that experience in musical theater and what it was like to play this role?

I passed the auditions and was approved for the character of Gretl and I was very happy. Moeller and Botelho are references in the musical, and it was a dream. There were many rehearsals with an incredible cast. We had to dance, sing and act, all live.

In the superseries “Os Dias Eram Assim”, you had a prominent role playing the character Gabriela. Could you tell us more about this work and what it was like to bring this remarkable character to life?

It was my first job, and I was very well received by my core. In the series, Susana was my grandmother and she was very fond of me. She was always very kind to me. Daniel Oliveira and Sophie Charlotte were my parents. It was my first job at TV Globo.

What are your future plans and projects in the artistic field, Maria Carolina Basilio? Could you share with us what are your next expectations and what projects do you intend to get involved in?

I intend to continue acting, because that’s what I love to do! In soap operas, series, movies, in the theater! Anyway, having the opportunity to be in everyone! And one of my biggest expectations is to be very happy and to be the protagonist of a project!

How do you see the role of art in society today, Maria Carolina Basilio? In her view, what is the importance of art in transmitting messages and provoking reflections?

Being able to convey happiness, love, everyday situations, awareness, bringing delicate subjects in the form of entertainment and, above all, showing the affection we have in making art. Art can transform the world through its messages.
