Kia Sajo releases its newest EP “Onda Máxima”, bringing a warm and dancing atmosphere to the Brazilian winter. After the success of the first eponymous single, the singer joins Bahian singer-songwriter Grego Jardim and music producer Ruan Zin to deliver an album with four engaging tracks. Flirting with brega and immersing herself in the Latin atmosphere, the artist explores her provocative musical identity, inviting the public to throw themselves on the dance floor and feel the rhythm take over.

With nine years of career, Kia Sajo has been gaining prominence in the New MPB scene. Starting her professional career in Criciúma / SC, where she was part of Brazilian music and samba de roots groups, the singer went to Florianópolis to study music and philosophy. It was on this journey that she began to produce her own original music, releasing hits such as “Saturno”, “Ensaio sobre o Flerte” and “Sol em Leão”. Now, with “Onda Máxima”, Kia Sajo shows his passion for Brazilian tropical music and prepares to conquer stages and playlists across the country.

The EP will also bring an imagery experience with the release of the track “Gitana”, promising a mystical and immersive experience for fans. With all his originality and artistic daring, Kia Sajo stands out as one of the most promising promises of contemporary Brazilian music, bringing freshness and contagious energy to the music scene in 2023.

How was the process of creating the EP “Onda Máxima”? What were your main inspirations?

It was a very fluid process, the songs emerged from our meetings in the studio, most of the time to rehearse, but we ended up composing and producing, until we realized that in this joke we had already made 4 songs together hahaha! Me, Indium and Greek Garden.

You mentioned that the EP has a more dance atmosphere. What was it like to explore these rhythms and how do you think the audience will react?

I always wanted to do an EP in this vein, more provocative, danceable and Latin, so for me the whole process was incredible, when we finished I thought: the public will enjoy it because this is so delicious! People need to have access to new sounds, the industry needs to open up more and more to this, to make room for new artists.

The single “Onda Máxima” has already been released and now the full EP is coming. What is the main message you want to convey with these songs?

The Onda Máxima EP is mainly intended to warm up our winter, right! hahaha, bring warmth, joy, movement and lots of love to whoever listens.

You collaborated with singer Grego Jardim and producer Ruan Zin for this project. What was it like working with them and how did this partnership influence the outcome of the EP?

Yes, Grego was already my guitarist and Indium my DJ, but in addition to being my band they are wonderful individual artists, great composers, it was certain that from this meeting music and more music would come out haha they are amazing! Our synergy totally influenced the outcome of the EP.

In addition to music, you also mentioned an image experience for the track “Gitana”. Can you tell us a little more about that and how it relates to music?

The video for Gitana has a lot of period references, we were inspired by the 20’s (I can’t give away too many spoilers! haha) and I’m suspicious to say so, but it turned out beautiful, we release it in August.

How would you describe your artistic identity and how is it reflected in the songs on the EP “Onda Máxima”?

I am mainly a Brazilian singer who likes to experiment, I love Brazilian and Latin music, I have this strong base, but I also drink from other sources, mainly from trip hop. I believe that the great common thread of my musical experiments is the subtle and often subjective sensuality of the lyrics I write.

You’ve been exploring different musical styles throughout your career. How do you define your sound and how has it evolved over time?

As I said before, I like to experiment and I am above all a Brazilian artist, today I feel that artists place great value on an almost immutable musical identity, but I have very ‘chameleon’ references like Caetano, Elis, Gal… They made a samba album, from suddenly they appeared with a rock song, some hits in English hahaha anyway, I like that! As Elis would say ‘I’m an artist, an artist changes his mind’ hahah I think it’s delicious and music provides us with that.

The “Onda Máxima” EP has the potential to reach a wider audience and be included in important playlists. How do you hope people connect with your music?

I hope they can feel the intention behind each letter, each arrangement, that they understand the rhythms with body, soul and heart and let themselves be carried away by this MAXIMUM WAVE.

In addition to releasing the EP, you are also an influencer and have an active presence on social media. How do you balance these two strands of your career?

So, I don’t see myself that way, as an influencer, I even end up being very lazy in this race, often toxic, driven by algorithms, but I understand that every singer/songwriter today needs to understand and also meet this demand and I understand the responsibility of having a lot of of people following me. Exchanging with the public is what makes me most active on the networks, this is priceless.

What are your future plans after releasing the EP? Can we expect more music, collaborations or other exciting projects?

Without a doubt, after the release of the video for Gitana I start releasing my solo album, the first of my career! I am very excited and immersed in a very unique creative process. Wait! Emotion will not be lacking.
