Hillary Lewis wears many hats in Chasing Cupid — creator, writer, and actor — and absolutely owns the screen as Maisey, the endearing and chaotic lead. With sharp wit and fearless delivery, Hillary plays a character who is simultaneously a mess and completely lovable.

Inspired by real-life experiences, Hillary developed Chasing Cupid alongside Lauren Davidi to highlight the unpredictable and often hilarious nature of love in the digital age. Maisey embodies that chaos perfectly, fumbling through hook-ups, heartbreak, and everything in between.

As both a creative force and comedic talent, Hillary Lewis helps shape the series into a raw, refreshing comedy that resonates deeply with modern viewers.

You’re one of the creators and also play the lead role. How much of Hillary is in Maisey?

I love this question! So much of me is in Maisey. When Lauren and I were writing out the character breakdowns for Chasing Cupid, our goal was to put a little bit of each of our friends personality into the characters. So much of me is in Maisey. Our quirky personality, the chaos in our lives, the authenticity, the list goes on and on.

What was it like balancing your work as an actress with the creative responsibilities behind the scenes?

Not gonna lie, balancing my work as an actress with the creative responsibilities behind the scenes was definitely a challenge. I had to figure out how to navigate my role as an actress alongside my role as one of the creators/producers of the show. Typically as an actor, we’re focused on ourselves, but I had to be aware of not only me and my acting, but everyone else in the cast and the crew as well.

The show deals with disastrous dates and modern relationships. Was any scene inspired by a real-life experience of yours?

So far no, but we definitely do have ideas of encorporating some horrendous dates I’ve been on into the future episodes. You’ll have to stay tuned!

The humor in the show is sharp and fast-paced. How did you shape this tone during the script development process?

Lauren and I are both very skilled in comedy writing and we used our knowledge during the script development process of Chasing Cupid. As for me personally, I grew up doing a lot of improv and comedy based work so that was definitely helpful during the creation process.

How do you hope Chasing Cupid contributes to the representation of women in romantic comedies?

I hope Chasing Cupid contributes to the representation of women in romantic comedies by showing women that they can do whatever they want to do in life. So often we are sexualized in a way that makes us seem less than we are, but in reality we are capable of so much more than people give us credit for. At the end of the day, I just want young girls’ main takeaway from Chasing Cupid to follow their dreams career wise because that’s what Lauren and I did and are doing, as well as go after love and don’t be scared to be themselves. At the end of the day, our unique personalities are what draw others to us.

Is there a particular scene or episode that you consider to be the heart of the series?

This is a hard one. I can’t choose one in particular, but for episode 1, we really did a deep dive into Sofia’s character. You see the ins and outs of her. Her strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes. And for episode 2, you get a good glimpse into each individual character and their personalities. I’m excited for the rest of the episodes, as they also have their own greatness to them.
