Natalia Polo shines as Sofia, the opinionated and elegantly poised character in Chasing Cupid. Sofia represents the person who tries to keep everything polished on the surface — even when love gets messy. Natalia’s nuanced performance captures the struggle between appearances and authenticity.
The series, created by Lauren Davidi and Hillary Lewis, follows five friends navigating romance and chaos with humor and heart. Natalia brings balance and depth to the ensemble, portraying a character who slowly learns that being vulnerable might be more powerful than being perfect.
With its mix of emotional insight and comedic flair, Chasing Cupid benefits greatly from Natalia Polo’s standout presence as one of its core characters.
Sofia seems to be the most traditional one in the group. What was it like playing someone whose values may differ from today’s generation?
I would say I’m very similar to Sofia in real life! My mom raised my sisters and I in a very Hispanic household, and I’m really grateful for that because it taught me to appreciate the process of truly getting to know someone and finding “the one.” It also taught me to not be scared to open your heart, even if it means risking getting hurt. Although Sofia might have a more traditional mindset when it comes to dating, she is never judgmental towards any of her friends, and is always open to learning more from them.
In a series filled with spontaneity, how did you manage to keep Sofia’s more formal tone from becoming a cliché?
Sofia might be more formal than the rest of her friends, but I never tried to portray her as “the serious” one. I think what stops her from becoming a cliché is her curiosity that comes from a genuine place. It was important for me to show that that side of her comes from wanting to find love and not from trying to be perfect. It’s just who she naturally is.
Was there a moment during filming when Sofia surprised you as a character?
Yes! What surprised me the most was when she decides to go to that Halloween party by herself. It’s a really big moment for her! I know that happens early in the episode when the audience is just getting to know her. But even in real life, going to a party by yourself can feel intimidating because of fear of looking lonely, at least for me. I think that moment really speaks to her character because it shows who she wants to become and the steps she’s taking to get there.
How did you work the contrast between Sofia and the other characters in the series?
I just feel like the mix of personalities works! I love that each of us has their own sort of role in the friend group. To me, Sofia is the ‘Charlotte’ of the group. Anyone who has seen SATC knows that that sort of dynamic between friends is the best, because each of us is able to learn something from one another.
The show dives into the contradictions of modern relationships. What kind of dilemma do you think Sofia represents?
Sofia represents girls who want to come out of their shell with all their heart, but might need a little push to do it. She got to meet these amazing girls who push her out of her comfort zone and help her realize her own value. She needs that support, and it comes during a time when she gets out of a relationship where she feels like she might’ve been at fault. That’s why I think that female friendships are so important during a hard moments like that in each woman’s lives.
In what ways might the audience relate to your character’s journey?
I think the audience might relate to Sofia’s journey because everyone has experienced a moment of insecurity in their life where you wonder if you’re enough. Her story is about finding confidence, while remaining staying true to yourself without having to change for anything or anyone, and I think that people will see a part of themselves in Sofia.
