American singer and songwriter Sophia Marie, 20, was born in New York and currently lives in South Florida. Since the age of 8, when she discovered her passion for singing and songwriting, the artist has been building a consistent path in music, moving between pop, alternative pop, and R&B.
In recent years, Sophia has collaborated with renowned producers and released tracks that have already reached thousands of listeners. Her most recent releases include “Top”, which has surpassed 235,000 streams, and “Take It Slow”, with over 500,000 plays on Spotify, co-written with Joaquin Diaz, Grammy-winning songwriter and partner of Romeo Santos.
The young artist has also worked with Grammy-nominated Rafinha RSQ (Anitta, Karol G, Thalía), releasing tracks such as “Channel”, and with Luis Salazar (collaborator of Luis Fonsi, Anitta, and Maluma) on the production of “El Perdedor”. Many of her songs have also been mixed and mastered by acclaimed Grammy-nominated engineers such as Pedro Peixto and Filli Filloza (Doja Cat, SZA).
As she continues to build her audience and digital presence, Sophia is committed to developing her own artistic identity, both in music and on social media, where she regularly shares her creative journey. In addition to her solo career, she is also carving out a space as a songwriter for other artists, expanding her presence in the music industry.
You started singing and writing songs at the age of 8. If you could go back in time and give a piece of advice to that young Sophia, what would it be?
I’d tell little me to trust her instincts and not overthink so much. At that age, music was pure fun, and I’d remind myself to keep that joy at the center of everything—even when things get harder later on.
Many artists go through a phase of searching for their sonic identity. When did you feel that you started finding “your voice” within pop, alternative pop, and R&B?
I think it really started clicking when I stopped trying to sound like anyone else and leaned into my own tone and storytelling. When I began blending pop melodies with pop-alt textures and more real-life lyrics, I realized that’s me.
You’ve worked with heavyweight producers and songwriters, some Grammy-nominated. What left the biggest impression on you in these experiences, and what did you take with you into your own creative process?
The biggest impression was how much discipline and humility they bring into the room. Even though they are so experienced, they still show up like students of music. That taught me to always stay open, curious, and willing to experiment.
Your songs have reached impressive streaming numbers. How do you handle the mix of very personal art and, at the same time, the mass response from the audience?
I write sometimes about things from my own life, or things that relate to me, and other times I just love making up stories. So when people connect with a song, whether it’s real or imagined, it just feels good to know it reached them in some way.
“Music is connection” is a common phrase, but every artist sees it in their own way. What do you hope people feel when they listen to your songs?
I just hope people enjoy it and maybe find something in it they can relate to. Whether it makes them feel good, think a little, or just sing along, that’s enough for me.
Besides building your career as a singer, you also aim to write for other artists. Is there a dream of hearing one of your compositions performed by a specific artist?
I would love to write for RAYE and Tate McRae. They both have such strong artistry and emotion in their music, and hearing one of my songs through their voices would be amazing.
You share a lot of your artistic routine on social media. How does this exposure influence your creative process: more as encouragement or sometimes as pressure?
Definitely encouragement. I love sharing my process because it inspires other producers…especially female ones to feel confident about posting their work too. It creates more of a supportive community than pressure for me.
Looking to the future, what would be the next big step that would make you think, “Wow, now I’m living my dream”?
A major goal of mine is to land a sync placement in a show or film. It would be such a meaningful milestone…both creatively and career-wise—to hear my music enhance a story on screen.
