On September 12th, Rio de Janeiro band Sound Bullet released the single “When It Goes Wrong (Acoustic),” a special re-recording celebrating the 10th anniversary of the track that marked the beginning of their career. Available on all digital platforms via Marã Música, the new version features previously unreleased arrangements with Nova Orquestra and the participation of singer Fê Smania, as well as a live video recorded in the studio that was released the same day. With a more delicate and intimate sound, the work contrasts with the energy of the original recording and reinforces the band’s commitment to exploring new forms of expression within their own work.

What’s it like for you to revisit a song that practically started the history of Sound Bullet and give it a new life ten years later?

It’s a gift to ourselves. At the same time, it’s a way of saying, “It’s great that we’re still making music out there,” that feeling of having walked this path for so long. In short, it brings a lot of happiness.

What was the biggest challenge in transforming an originally danceable track into a more contemplative and delicate version, without losing the essence of the song?

It was definitely not about wanting to bring that danceable form. The song has been completely tied to that beat since its inception, so how do you transform it into a softer indie pop song with an orchestra? It’s quite difficult, but it worked. The orchestra itself helped us bring that calmness when shaping the arrangements.

What was the experience like working with an orchestra and incorporating new elements and sonic textures? Did it evoke any different emotions for you during the recording?

It was very interesting. It’s not the first time we’ve had strings on a track, but it’s the first time we’ve been involved in the entire process, from arrangement to recording, being able to offer input and exchange ideas with the musicians. So it was quite different and interesting. It brought a range of emotions, knowing we had musicians with different experiences and being able to understand how they saw what was being worked on.

Her participation added a special touch to the track. How did the invitation come about, and what surprised you most about the collaboration?

It was an idea that came up with João from Agência Olga and evolved into a partnership involving Marã, Olga, and Nova Orquestra, along with us. From a single feature, it became a very special EP for us. And what was most surprising was how we were welcomed, you know? By everyone, not just the musicians there. It was a partnership with the true meaning of the word.

You mentioned that the recording was live in the studio. Were there any funny or unexpected moments behind the scenes worth sharing?

Yes, it did! But I don’t think we’ll tell you about it just yet. But here’s our admiration for the musicians in the quartet, who are incredible and left us speechless with their versatility and experience.

Looking back, what has changed at Sound Bullet since “When It Goes Wrong” was first released? And what remains the same in your DNA?

Everything has changed and nothing has changed at the same time. We’re different people, the band itself only has three members from that era, and the influences have changed a lot. We’re also no longer young adults. But we still love guitar, indie, and music with textures and dance. It’s hard to explain, but we’re the same, while we would never make a WIGW like that.

How do you hope fans will receive this release? Do you think it will reach a new audience or speak differently to longtime listeners?

I hope it brings warmth to the hearts of everyone who loves the original version, a feeling of good nostalgia. But we also want the new version, with Fê Smania bringing her incredibly beautiful and distinctive voice, to touch new people and evoke positive feelings.

This reinterpretation marks a celebratory moment. Are you already thinking about revisiting other old songs, or is the focus now on exploring new creative avenues?

There will be at least one new revisitation, as we’ve already done some last year and the year before. But right now, I’d say the path points toward new songs. We have some to release. And who knows, maybe in 2027 we’ll have new versions as well. Terreno will be celebrating its 10th anniversary.
