Child actor Theo Matos, about to debut in the telenovela Dona de Mim, will appear on screen next week alongside Emilio Dantas and Camila Pitanga with a character completely different from anything he has done before. At only 8 years old, Theo achieves an unprecedented milestone: he becomes the first child actor to be part of the regular cast of three TV Globo telenovelas before the age of 9, establishing himself as one of the great promises of the new generation.
Theo, in the telenovela Dona de Mim you’re going to play a character very different from anything you’ve done before. What did you like most about him when you found out you were going to play this role?
I really enjoyed it because it’s a challenging role (I can’t give any spoilers yet!).
What was it like filming scenes alongside such beloved actors as Emílio Dantas and Camila Pitanga? Was there a funny or special moment that you remember?
They are both very special! Camila is a very welcoming and caring person, and Emilio is like a father figure. He teaches me many things and has also welcomed me with great affection.
You’ve already been in three soap operas on Globo before you even turned 9! How does it feel to be the first child actor to achieve that?
Actually, a movie is playing in my head. I remember when I lived in Santa Catarina and now I’m even on the end-of-year call!
You started way back in Mar do Sertão. What does Theo of today think is different from Theo of that time? Do you feel you learned anything important during that time?
Yes! I learned that when we are humble, we can go very far.
In film, you’ve also worked with super fun actors like Ingrid Guimarães and Lázaro Ramos. What stood out most to you about that experience?
The affection and warmth of these great actors.
You film soap operas, movies, series, and also do advertising campaigns for various brands. Which job has been the most fun so far? Why?
Each one of them was very special and left a mark on my heart. I miss working with Lilia Cabral on Fuzuê.
When you’re not filming, what do you most enjoy doing to play, relax, or have fun? What makes you happy off-camera?
When I’m not filming, I love playing with Lego and going to the mall with my family.
And looking to the future, even though you’re so young: is there any type of character you dream of playing someday?
Yes! I want to play a Marvel hero!
