Capim Cósmico transforms routine and introspection into music in the single “Mais um Dia” (One More Day)

Capim Cósmico

The Capim Cósmico project, created by Mateus Cursino, presents the single “Mais um Dia” (One More Day), a track that translates into sound the silent sensations of daily life, such as tiredness, repetition, and the search for small respites in the routine. With influences from alternative rock, indie, and contemporary psychedelia, the song relies on a dense and immersive atmosphere to provoke identification and reflection in the listener. In an interview, the artist discusses the creative process of the song, marked by an original construction in which he plays all the instruments, in addition to highlighting the moment of consolidation of the project’s sound identity.

The song “Mais um Dia” (One More Day) was born from observing daily life and its repetitive cycles. At what point did you realize that these silent feelings could be transformed into music?

“Mais um Dia” (Another Day) emerged from the tiring daily routine of an ordinary person, with mundane tasks like taking out the trash, working, and how little by little this wears us down without being very noticeable. At some point I realized that this silent accumulation had enough power to become music.

The song addresses themes such as routine, guilt, and exhaustion—very common experiences, but not always easy to translate artistically. How was it to transform these feelings into lyrics and a sonic atmosphere?

I tried to convey the atmosphere more than explain everything. The music carries this cyclical and somewhat hypnotic feeling, reflecting those emotions.

In the production process, you recorded all the instruments yourself. What did this more solitary creative format bring that was different to the final result of the music?

Recording alone gave me total freedom, but it’s always a limiting factor. I recorded drums without being a drummer, and that made the music quite simple. But it’s something I really like, the simplicity and the urgency.

Musically, the single explores alternative rock, indie, and contemporary psychedelia. Which artists or references helped shape the sound you sought for Capim Cósmico?

It draws influences from Cachorro Grande, Maglore, and Boogarins, but also from foreign bands like Nirvana and Pixies.

Guitar sounds and effects seem to play an important role in constructing the narrative of a song. How do you consider these sonic details when it comes to conveying emotion within a song?

I started this song with the drums because I wanted to create something calm in the verses and heavier in the chorus, so the rhythmic part was very important. The effects help create the psychedelic atmosphere of the verses, while the drive changes everything in the chorus.

The goal of “Mais um Dia” is to create a connection with the listener. What kind of reaction or feeling do you hope to evoke in people when they listen to the track?

You’ve had significant experiences on stages like Sesc Belenzinho and festivals like Hacktown, in addition to your journey with the band Velhos Aspargos. How have these experiences helped shape the identity of Capim Cósmico?

It’s funny how sometimes it doesn’t seem to help much. Starting over is always very difficult, and Capim was a project I started from scratch, recording everything myself. Today I have Fernando and Alberto in the band, which gives me great support to continue.

This single also paves the way for a full album. What new paths or sonic universes can the public expect to discover in the next chapters of the project?

The album will expand on this universe, with denser, more psychedelic, and introspective moments. Some other compositions also emerged throughout the process, giving me even more options. There will be a bit of Sonic Youth influence, and that’s really cool.
