The Military Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPM) held, on February 25, 2026, at the Military Justice Prosecutor’s Office in Rio de Janeiro, a ceremony honoring Military Justice Prosecutor Ronaldo Petis Fernandes on the occasion of his retirement, following one of the longest careers in the Institution’s history.

The event brought together, at the Military Justice Prosecutor’s Office in Rio de Janeiro/RJ (PJM Rio de Janeiro/RJ), members, staff, and authorities of the Federal Military Justice system to celebrate the prosecutor’s career, marked by institutional dedication, professional excellence, and respect in his interactions with colleagues and collaborators. The ceremony was attended by the Prosecutor-General of Military Justice, Clauro Roberto de Bortoli, and the Director-General of the MPM, Antonio Carlos Alves Coutinho. Also present were members of the Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU), attorneys practicing before the Federal Military Justice, staff of the Federal Military Justice, as well as members and staff of the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The ceremony was hosted by journalist Claudia Cataldi, an alumni of the Advanced Course in Political and Strategic Studies (CAEPE) at the Superior War College, who was responsible for presenting the proceedings and conducting the sequence of tributes. The event also featured a special performance by the FuzziBossa band of the Marine Corps, which paid a musical tribute to the retired prosecutor. The ceremony also included the special presence of the prosecutor’s wife, Maria Beatriz Petis Fernandes, who was likewise honored in recognition of her support and partnership throughout nearly five decades of dedication to the member of the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Institutional Trajectory – A native of Rio de Janeiro, Ronaldo Petis joined the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office on March 16, 1976, beginning his career as a Substitute Military Prosecutor of Third Category. In 1980, the position was renamed Substitute Military Prosecutor of Second Category.

With the institutional reorganization resulting from the 1988 Federal Constitution, he became part of the permanent staff of the MPM as a Second Category Military Prosecutor. Subsequently, with the enactment of Complementary Law No. 75 of 1993, the position was renamed Military Justice Promoter. On September 17, 1996, he was promoted to the position of Military Justice Prosecutor, a role he held until his retirement.

At the conclusion of his institutional career, Ronaldo Petis had accumulated 49 years and 11 months of effective service in the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office, approaching five decades of dedication to the Institution.

Throughout his career, he also held relevant administrative and strategic roles, including: Administrative Manager of the Military Justice Prosecutor’s Office in Rio de Janeiro; Member of a Regional Subcommittee of the MPM; Member of the Editorial Board of the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office; Member of the Strategic Technology Committee; and Member of the Strategic Management Support Group.

Recognition – During the ceremony, several authorities and colleagues highlighted not only the honoree’s professional trajectory but also his human and institutional qualities.

Military Justice Prosecutor Hevelize Jourdan Covas Pereira, administrative coordinator of the PJM Rio de Janeiro/RJ, expressed her admiration for the honoree as both a person and a colleague. According to her, the prosecutor always stood out for his cordiality, welcoming attitude, and respect in dealing with everyone, qualities that defined his institutional relationships.

Military Justice Prosecutor Ailton José da Silva, Legal Director of the National Association of Military Public Prosecutors (ANMPM), noted the privilege of having shared a significant part of his career with the honoree, highlighting his dedication, elegance, and excellence in the exercise of his duties.

On behalf of the staff, Áureo de Albuquerque Lima, from the 4th PJM Rio de Janeiro/RJ, emphasized the respectful relationship and the trust the prosecutor consistently placed in staff members over decades of joint work. In a light-hearted remark, he observed that nearly 50 years of service could place him in the “Guinness Book of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.”

Gratitude and Institutional Mission – In his remarks, Ronaldo Petis Fernandes expressed emotion as he thanked colleagues, members, and authorities for their presence, especially highlighting the institutional recognition received. On that occasion, he also made a point of briefly acknowledging the importance of the work carried out by the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office Administrative Executive and Public Security Manager, Daiane de Figueiredo de Oliveira , emphasizing her effective performance and commitment in the exercise of her duties, contributions which, according to him, strengthen the solidity of institutional activities.

Reflecting on his trajectory, he stated that his career was marked by dedication, continuous learning, and collaboration with numerous colleagues along the way. He also emphasized the institutional dimension of his role: “The Public Prosecutor’s Office is not merely a career. It is a mission, one of the highest expressions of public responsibility, aimed at the defense of justice, legality, and equity.”

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Prosecutor-General Clauro Bortoli highlighted the significance of the honoree’s trajectory for the history of the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office. According to him, Ronaldo Petis represents a true part of the Institution’s history, having reached 50 years of service in the MPM, a period that corresponds to nearly half of the very existence of the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Clauro Bortoli also recalled that he had already had the opportunity to honor the prosecutor in Brasília, on February 10, 2026, during the inauguration of the commemorative plaque recognizing the contributions of members incorporated through the Transitional Constitutional Provisions Act of the 1988 Constitution (ADCT/88).

He further noted that the tribute held by the PJM Rio de Janeiro/RJ carries special meaning, as it is the unit where the honoree served for most of his career.

The ceremony thus represented a moment of institutional recognition of a career marked by dedication, functional independence, public spirit, and deep respect for people, values that remain as the legacy of Military Justice Prosecutor Ronaldo Petis Fernandes to the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office.
