With good humor, casual romance, and an atmosphere of emotional freedom, singer Laura Fantini releases the music video for “Improviso,” the final track from her EP “Desafogo,” which hit platforms on July 9th. The new song, which plays with the idea of a love that only needs a day to happen, is also now available as a video on the Valetes Records channel. Inspired by artists like Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga, the artist opts for a lighter, more relaxed sound, concluding the cycle of a project that has already amassed over 90,000 streams on Spotify.

You mention that “Improviso” is the lightest track on the EP, with a fun and unpretentious feel. What was it like for you to explore this lighter, more detached side of love after such intense and personal songs?

It was really fun and different from more serious compositions. I had a certain freedom to imagine and create a story from my imagination.

The name “Desafogo” came from a casual conversation between friends, but it ended up perfectly summing up the EP’s spirit. Do you remember the exact moment you felt, “This is it, this name captures what I’m experiencing”?

I remember mentioning to my friends that this EP had been like a vent for me and I wanted the name to reflect that, but “vent” wasn’t a strong enough name. I also remember that I didn’t want a name that conveyed any feeling other than the relief of getting something off my chest; I didn’t want it to have an undertone of anger or revenge. After some suggestions from my friends, we arrived at the name. I remember it really resonated with me, and after a few days, I decided on it.

The partnership with Helena Novais appears to be a key point in the creative process. What is it like to compose with someone who, besides being talented, can listen to your feelings with such sensitivity?

Since I started writing with Helena, I’ve learned a lot about songwriting, and I think she was fundamental to the process of this EP. Besides creating a super comfortable environment, she also understands very well what I want to convey in my songs. I think we hit it off really well in that regard. I feel like with her help, I’ve also overcome many fears in songwriting and can be a little more daring.

In the “Improviso” music video, the romantic encounters are funny and fleeting—but you end up happy, alone, and at peace. How much does this message reflect your current view on relationships and emotional autonomy?

I think this represents me 100% right now. I don’t see myself in a relationship right now, and I’m okay with that. I believe I still have a lot to discover about myself and a lot to do, and these are things we have to do alone. We have to take care of ourselves for ourselves, and no one else. I feel like I’m still on this path, and that’s my priority.

Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga are cited as inspirations for this song. What about these artists inspires you most when composing or performing—is it their boldness, their sincerity, their style?

I really like their originality, their boldness and courage to try, regardless of numbers, they show that you can go through various phases and moments, as long as you are speaking your truth and expressing it sincerely in your art, everything will work out.

You filmed the music video in your hometown, in some unusual locations like a pizzeria and even the director’s house. What was it like returning to this place with this new project under your belt? Did it bring back any special memories or feelings?

It’s always great to record in Bauru, especially at Vitória Régia Park, which has been there forever. I remember driving past it with my parents; it was the route to many of the places I spend time in the city, and today, whenever I pass by, I remember recording and how much fun it was. It’s always very special to be in a place where your family lives and where you were born.

With over 90,000 plays on Spotify, the EP is already gaining popularity among audiences. What has it been like dealing with such positive and affectionate feedback from people on social media and platforms?

I love seeing that people are listening and enjoying it. Even friends. It’s always great to hear them singing my songs. It also gives you a boost; you feel like you’re on a good path.

You describe Desafogo as a musical process, but also a spiritual one. What do you feel you healed or freed within yourself during this journey?

I feel like I’ve mostly lost the shyness of being honest about what I feel, and that this has brought people closer together. I’ve become more confident in my music, and today I can “pull off” the singer pose more. This comes with time, but this EP has definitely brought me a lot of pride and peace, knowing that I’ve closed certain cycles in my life. This has also helped with the upcoming compositions. I’m more confident in my ideas and desires, and creating has been really fun and lighter.
