Voxemy, the singer from Minas Gerais based in Germany, launches his solo career with the single and clip “NQuem Pique”. With a solar and inspiring approach, the song translates the pains and delights of being an independent musician, encouraging listeners not to give up on dreams and embrace the long paths that lead to fulfillment. The video, recorded on the streets of Germany, is now available on YouTube, and the track can be heard on the main streaming platforms.
After standing out with the group Art & Compromisso, Voxemy now follows its own musical journey. In 2022, the singer made his debut with the single “Perdi Você”, a collaboration with Jona Poeta that explored the duality of vocals. Now, in 2023, Voxemy is ready to present his debut EP, entitled “Vivências”, which promises to be a dive into the musician’s biography, full of experiences lived in different places, such as Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Argentina and Europe.
Even with changes and challenges along its trajectory, Voxemy found in music a way to express its most sincere emotions. “NQuem Pique” reflects in a raw and honest way on the obstacles faced in the life of an artist, being much more than a simple song. For Voxemy, this song is a cry, an outburst, a pain, a relief, a faith and a hope. Written in one of the most difficult moments of his life, the song became a starting point for moving forward, chasing dreams and overcoming all the obstacles that come along the way.
With his music, Voxemy opens the pages of a book about his life as a black man and an expatriate, always maintaining the connection with his roots. The single and clip “NQuem Pique” are the first sample of this resilience and are available for listening on the main streaming platforms.
How was the transition from being in a band to going solo? What were the main challenges faced in this process?
The transition was super smooth because it was something I had wanted for a while. But it’s natural to miss that review with the brothers in the group. Even because this decision was accompanied by a move to another state, to Rio de Janeiro.
The video and single “NQuem Pique” approach the journey of an independent musician and the importance of not giving up on your dreams. How does this song reflect your own experience in the music industry?
There is a part of the song that answers this question very well. “We see so much injustice out there, don’t wait for me to die to see it as an artist”. Not to mention the lack of capital to launch a good job. Even today, with so much technology and tools at your disposal, it’s not enough just to sing well, write well, produce well. The market wants investment and high investment.
The EP “Vivências” will explore different parts of his biography and personal experiences. Could you tell us a little more about the themes and stories present in the songs in this project?
This EP covers different phases of my life, from the last 3 years. It talks about everything about the struggle of being an independent artist. But also about loves, connections, pains, values. It basically talks about the life of an intense Scorpio, full of qualities and defects. (Laughter)
You mentioned having lived in different places, from Brazil to Europe. How have these cultural and geographic experiences influenced your music and artistic style?
Total influence on my style, because I was a samba and pagoda singer and when I moved to Argentina, there was none of that there. That’s when I started listening to a lot of Latin music and I learned Spanish watching video clips on TV, with a lot of Reggaeton. Then came the idea of writing something in Spanish in the reggaeton style, which at the time was something that I don’t think anyone was doing in Brazil. Not even Anitta had recorded it yet.
“In that Pique” was written at a difficult time in your life, when you felt lost and unmotivated. How did music and art in general help you overcome these obstacles and find the strength to keep chasing your dreams?
For me, art has always worked as a way of venting, or as a means of communication, whether to send a message or to talk about my pains and lessons. So I started writing this song, for me it was like the last one. And when I got to the end of the song I thought: “It’s not possible that God gave me this gift and nobody knows about it” (laughs). That’s where the phrase “giving up is not an option” came from.
How would you describe the sound and musical influences present in your work as a solo artist?
It’s something different, just listen to it to get it. I’ve always loved listening to music and listened to literally everything. So my musical style brings this mix of everything I like, from Tim Maia and Djavan to Chris Brown, Rael, 50 Cent…
Being a black man and an expatriate certainly brought unique challenges to his trajectory. How do you deal with these issues in your music and how is your identity reflected in your art?
I usually say: What would become of me if it weren’t for art. Music is my gift, to transform my experiences into art. It’s what keeps me optimistic and on the path of good.
In addition to music, you mentioned opening a bar. How did this entrepreneurial experience contribute to your artistic and personal development?
Undertaking for me has always been the solution to the lack of money and consequently to more time to dedicate myself to music. So I imagined the perfect scenario, where I could receive people, meet new people, eat, drink, sing and still earn money from it. (laughs) Let’s say that this is my natural habitat as a person and as an artist, no less!
What are your expectations for the future of your solo career? Are there any projects or collaborations you would like to undertake?
The expectation is very high! I have big dreams in music One of the projects that is already happening is the ConexSom project, where I record with several artists who connect with me behind the music. The idea is to strengthen each other and strengthen the independent scene until it ceases to be independent.
Finally, what do you hope to convey to the public through your music and what message would you like to leave for those who are facing their own challenges in the pursuit of their dreams?
The message I want to convey to everyone can be summed up in 3 words. Honesty, peace and good. This is my motto. I grew up without a father, without a mother, without a threshing floor and I am very proud of not being a bad person. The message I leave for everyone, regardless of their dreams, their conditions.
