“Amormaço” is the title of his new EP, which will be released in September. Can you tell us a little about the concept behind this work and what listeners can expect from it?
I’ve always had a very strong tendency to make romantic songs, since I was a teenager. I’ve always identified myself a lot because I’m very emotional lol. On my first album, Contrapranto, there are two romantic/sensual songs, Escorreu and Vai Saber (which I even love hehe), but I feel that I didn’t delve into this theme the way I would like, the way it represents me. Those who listen to the EP will notice that most of the songs (there are 5 in total) have a more pleasant feel, a positive way of seeing love. But that wasn’t always how I saw it, I ended up putting an expectation of changing my life in love, making my passions all I had. And that was reflected in the songs I wrote, which today I see no longer represent me. So this EP is a transition between this suffering, painful, difficult love, to a mature love, that makes grow, a warm, tasty, cozy love. And of course, this will reflect on the whole vibe of the songs, which I would say are like sitting in a park and feeling the sunlight on your skin. It’s more or less there.
The single “Fascínio” is a partnership with producer Lucasbin. How was the experience of working with him again and how would you describe the musical style explored on this track?
Well, anyone who accompanies me knows that Lucasbin is my boyfriend lol. So he is my partner in life, work, art. Making music with him is a very natural thing, very peaceful, we understand each other. When we made the first album, we had several processes that were difficult to understand how each one works. And there was also the issue that we were in a more learning stage, the first song that he and I recorded together was Vai Saber, which was also the first authorial song that I recorded and the first song that he recorded voice, which gives get a sense of how much we’ve learned together. So there were several difficult moments, but which were very important for today to have the dynamics that we have. That is, at Fascínio it was no different, it has been super nice to make music together.
Regarding the musical style, it is a foreshadowing of what the EP will be like: a contemporary RnB, with references from MPB, Indie, Jazz, among other styles that are part of our repertoire.
How do you see the maturation of your musical aesthetic compared to your debut album, “Contrapranto”? What has changed in terms of sound and lyrical approach?
It’s a maturation together with lucasbin, we’ve learned a lot, we’ve refined our musical perception a lot since then. In Contrapranto we were “shooting everywhere” lol. We have many different references, hip hop, house, techno, rock, mpb, indie… And Contrapranto ended up reflecting that, the songs have very different styles. And I think it was good for me to be able to experiment and feel what I like to sing and what suits my voice and my personality. So in Amormaço we are looking for a more specific style, in that RnB style. In terms of the lyrics, I don’t know if I’ve changed that much, even because there were some songs I wrote back in Contrapranto, or even before. But I think I managed to refine the way of singing them a little, with more authenticity, more swing maybe lol
The theme of love and sensuality is explored in “Fascínio” and in the EP “Amormaço”. How do you approach these themes in your songs and what message do you hope to convey to listeners?
Well, as I said before, I want to unravel what a light and mature love is, which has fire, but more than that, it has depth. I want to convey to anyone who hears that a good love is not that suffering and difficult love that we see so much in movies and series, that you have to fight to conquer, you have to be someone you are not, you have to pretend a personality you are not. and yours. A good love, for me, is the person knowing all your flaws and loving you that way. You can tell someone about your difficulties, your fears, things you feel ashamed of. And still have an individuality. And yes, it exists!!
The songs talk about it in a very subjective way, but I think it somehow shows through. Oh, and one detail is that there is a song that is not about romantic love, which is “I stopped in time”. It’s a song I wrote thinking about my brothers, specifically my younger brother, who I saw grow up and I see myself reflected in him, in the processes he goes through. And it’s wonderful to see that happening. Being able to be part of it. This song is beautiful, I highly recommend it lol
In addition to music, you are also a performer and composer. How do these different artistic facets complement each other in your career and influence your creative approach?
As a performer, it’s something I’m still discovering… I started with this within the Coro Cênico de Curitiba, which is a project that I am part of and helped to found in 2018, and where I have the possibility of exploring my performer/scenic side (in addition to music, of course). It’s something that is still very new to me, but that interests me a lot. Being able to choose a side of you to show on stage. Being able to play with the public, and make this game a show, a spectacle. Who inspired me to do this was Letrux, who is an artist that I admire a lot. I’m trying to do this more and more in my shows, and I think this ends up reflecting on my way of seeing art, as something hybrid: it’s not just music, or it’s not just performance. It’s “all at the same time now” lol.
Already in the composition, it is something that molds my being. Writing is inevitable for me. I don’t even know how to delve too deeply into it, because my creative approach is precisely through composition, the meanings of things, double meanings, metaphors, interpretations. This gives me the strength to live and create.
What are your plans for the future after releasing the EP? Can we expect live shows and more musical collaborations?
For sure. I decided not to do feats on this EP because I think they are very personal themes, on Contrapranto I felt free to call Mika Mc and Brinsan N`Tchalá to do feats with me because I felt that they were themes that I could share more, and have different perspectives, and it was sensational. But I’m always doing collabs with instrumentalists. But after the EP there will definitely be other feats, let’s see what happens hehe
About the shows, I’m super excited about it actually, because I’m putting together a show script that I think is going to be really cool. And other than that, I’m putting together a band too, with sensational musicians. Before it was just me and Lucasbin in faith and courage lol Now it’s going to be something more elaborate, more organic. I have an open agenda, but I’m already advancing that in October I’m going to do a show at the Conservatório de Música de Curitiba, which is already scheduled for the 22/10. I think you can consider him the EP release show hehe
How has your music and performance been received so far? Is there a particular moment that was especially meaningful to you as an artist?
It’s been amazing, but not without obstacles. I think it’s a difficult style to hit, to go viral, you know? So it’s all very slow, and I, as an anxious person, have a hard time dealing with it. But I’ve had amazing moments on this walk. For example, last year I participated in FIMS, the Music Fair here in Curitiba, and I did a showcase. That day of the show I had a wonderful reception, it was a crowded show with many artists present. And wow, I was so excited. Also, I’ve been welcomed more and more by the city’s artists in one way or another. And apart from social networks, which have also been slow to see growth, but when I receive feedback there, I always feel a lot of sincerity and a lot of emotion from people. I’m very happy with each message, really.
In addition to music, you have also been involved in projects such as Rockcamp Curitiba and the pre-carnival block Caiu no Cavalo Babão. How do these additional experiences influence your work as an artist?
Rockcamp was an amazing experience. I’ve never experienced anything like it. I was able to give a workshop and give singing lessons to children and teenagers, and I saw myself a lot in their individual processes. And I also learned a lot about what a learning process is like, I learned to name things. And I learned a lot about freedom too. I really want to participate again!
And in the block Caiu no Cavalo Babão, I always wanted to be part of a carnival block, and it turned out that the vocalist who sang there I met at Rockcamp hahaha It was something very spontaneous, we taught together at Camp, and she said that was in need of a vocalist on the block. And I joined, it’s a block of rock, which is not what I usually sing, but which I really like. It’s an indescribable feeling to sing among the people, the energy is from another world. It was something I really fell in love with.
Finally, how would you like listeners to feel when listening to your music and what message do you hope to convey through your art?
This is difficult lol. There are many things. But I think that in general what I want with my songs is to give a name, or rather, to give voice to some feelings that we don’t really know what they are. For example, Ladainha is a single that I released this year and that talks about this, our difficulty in saying what we are really thinking or feeling, and that we end up talking about anything other than that, trying to express ourselves. And all this happens because we only learned that way, we learned not to be “rude”, to be nice and not to say what is really going on, because it could be seen badly. I want to talk about the difficult things, the things that hurt and confuse. Giving a voice to what seems like a tangle of mixed feelings.
