The band Gold Coast , originally from Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, dives into the contagious atmosphere of surfing music , marking a decade of musical history with a repertoire full of international hits. Formed by Alexandre Monteiro, Sávio Heindefelder and Alexandre Bond, Gold Coast emerged as an invigorating project after previous experiences in the surfing scene music . Facing challenges to find its space among a restricted audience, the band conquered its place with a danceable sound, which mixes elements of pop, rock, dance and new wave . With performances that turn into real parties, the Gold Coast nurtures a special connection with its audience, offering unique and unforgettable experiences at each show. How did the idea of forming the band Gold Coast come about and what motivated you to follow the surf music style ?
In fact, Gold Coast was a project created by Sávio after the end of another surf music project we had. Sávio and I had already participated in surf music projects in the 90s and, in 2015, we got together again to open shows on the Spy vs. Spy in Brazil. Since then, we have never been apart. When this project ended in 2019, Sávio invited me to join Gold Coast, and I immediately accepted. Surf music was a style that marked our adolescence and having a project like this has always been special for us.
About your journey, what were the main challenges you faced and the most notable achievements along the way?
Because it is a different style, but with a restricted audience, we always face difficulties in finding spaces for the project in all bars or concert halls. Furthermore, there are really few musicians who master this style.
Surf music is a very characteristic musical style. How would you define the Gold Coast sound and what elements do you consider essential to creating the unique atmosphere of your performances?
Over time, we realized that, despite our roots in surfing, it was necessary to expand our horizons and explore other styles such as pop, rock, dance and new wave . This way, we were able to create a more danceable sound, attracting the audience closer and transforming our shows into real parties, with everyone singing together. What really makes the difference in our presentations in this trio format is the joy and positive vibe we feel when we are on stage, which automatically infects everyone. We enjoy what we do.
You have a diverse repertoire, which includes versions of hits by international artists like Bon Jovi. What is the process of selecting and adapting songs to the band’s style?
We define our repertoire together, considering not only the artists we like and listen to frequently, but also the songs that connect us with our audience. We are always exchanging ideas and adjusting our set list to keep it dynamic and with high energy.
Niterói is known for its rich cultural scene. How does the city influence the band’s work and how do you connect with this local scene?
Niterói is a musically diverse city, with space for all styles. With our band’s current format and the repertoire we’ve built, we feel like we can perform almost anywhere. Sávio, being one of the most recognized names in the Niterói music scene, certainly facilitates this networking.
You have a very busy touring schedule. What can audiences expect from a live performance from the Gold Coast and how do you interact with the audience during shows?
Our greatest quality is our delivery. Each show is unique and we are dedicated to making that special connection with the audience. We feed off this exchange of energy and our greatest joy is seeing the audience involved, feeling that the show is an experience shared and built by everyone.
Finally, how do you see the role of the Gold Coast in the Brazilian music scene today and what message would you like to convey to the band’s fans and admirers?
The Gold Coast has been conquering its space in the music scene of Niterói and Rio with a lot of dedication and hard work. We want to express our deep gratitude, reinforcing that our existence depends on our audience. Therefore, we invite everyone to join us at our shows, to share unique and unforgettable moments.
