Warner Bros Discovery kicks off studio centennial celebration

Warner Bros. Discovery (Nasdaq: WBD) today officially launched its global Celebrating Every Story campaign, in celebration of Warner Bros.’s 100th anniversary, which will complete on April 4, 2023. We are excited about our company’s bright and dynamic future, and as we embark on its second century, we will continue to tell great stories that entertain, inform and inspire audiences around the world.”

Here’s how the company will celebrate the centenary of Warner Bros.:

Programming — Highlights of the centennial programming and content include: a three-episode documentary on the history of Warner Bros. produced by WB Unscripted Television, which will premiere on HBO Max (and select partners in territories where HBO Max is not available); marathons of special shows and episodes on more than 40 Warner Bros. on US and international channels; archive interviews broadcast by Extra in 29 seasons of studio visits, red carpets and interviews; an entire year of classics from Warner Bros. in the TCM; partnerships with various community organizations to help identify and recruit filmmakers to participate in a short film project honoring some of Warner Bros.’s most iconic films; and centennial events and brands that connect fans to the studio’s biggest brands, franchises, and characters on TV.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment — Will release a series of commemorative films and TV shows in digital, Blu-ray and DVD formats, including four volumes of 25 films and a collection of 100 films (both accompanied by collectibles), complete collections of TV series available for the first time, and “Best of” compilations featuring the best of WBTV’s most beloved franchises. Throughout the year, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will also release a dozen remastered titles, available for the first time in 4K UHD (ultra-high definition), with works ranging from the collection of five Superman films to the 50th anniversary special of Enter the Dragon and The Exorcist.

HBO Max — Beginning at the end of January, it will have a page dedicated to programming related to the centenary. HBO Max will leverage Warner Bros.’s unrivaled film and TV show collections. to feature selections honoring cultural dates and events such as Black History Month, Women’s History Month, AAPI (Asian and Pacific Descendants) Month, and LGBTQ Pride Month.

Consumer Products — From apparel and housewares to toys, collectibles, publishing, retailers, beverage and food companies, Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products is partnering with some of the world’s biggest and best-known brands to celebrate the day. Throughout 2023, the company will feature several exclusive centennial activations with partners such as Amazon, Saks Fifth Avenue, Funko, Mattel, New Era, Running Press, among others. In addition, a new product line will debut featuring the Looney Tunes, a landmark in Warner Bros. history, featuring as superfans dressed as other legendary characters from beloved franchises such as DC and Wizarding World.

Experiences — The company will host a variety of live events and experiences for fans around the world throughout the year, including:
A series of candlelight concerts (Candlelight Concert Series) in 100 cities that will offer audiences a musical journey through 100 years of Warner Bros. These cities include São Paulo, Los Angeles, New York, London, Toronto, Melbourne, Paris, Singapore, Milan and Mexico City;
The TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood in April will honor great films and talents from the history of Warner Bros., such as Casablanca, The Exorcist (which turns 50 and will feature director William Friedkin), Enter the Dragon, East of Eden (with world premiere film restoration) and Where All Hell Begins;
Closed screenings of some of the most popular films in Warner Bros. history;
Centennial exhibits and exhibits in conjunction with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.
Commemorative exhibits at Warner Bros. Theater at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History;
Activations at hotels and parks by Warner Bros. around the world such as The WB Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, Parque Warner Madrid and Warner Bros. Movie World in Australia. Centennial celebrations will include exclusive merchandise, photo-ops (produced photos), activations, guest appearances and more.

Global Celebrations — Warner Bros. has had an international presence practically since it was created. In honor of the global popularity of the brand, its content, characters and audience appeal, teams around the world will be conducting centennial-related activations across all of the studio’s business units. With initiatives such as centenary celebrations in China, a themed showcase during the Beijing International Film Festival, pop-up channels in Germany, film screenings across Europe, and launches of varied products and fashion items in all regions. Celebrating the centennial of Warner Bros. it will truly be a worldwide party.

Social media — Since nothing happens if it doesn’t also exist on social media, omni-platform engagement is an important element of the centennial celebration.
