As an experience of self-reading your own demons, the track “O Pior de Mim”, you end up revealing problems that circulate in the imagination of many people. Could you talk a little more about the experience of having done this reading?
I’ve always had an internal struggle with my insecurities and feelings throughout my life, both in my personal life and in my professional life, I believe that we all face different challenges over time, and many times, we can’t bear it! “O Pior de Mim” shows a little of this difficulty, in trying to be strong all the time, trying to show yourself well to the world! When you actually don’t need to be well constantly. This is one of the great challenges of a person who faces these problems.
Regarding the inspiration for creating this song, how does your composition process usually work? Did this vision of yours about the imagination of many people come from your own thoughts or was it based on observations of the world?
I like to write about my experiences, about what happens in my day to day, whether in the past or in the present, every story is worth working on if it’s done with the heart! I usually write the melody first on an instrument, on the keyboard, on the guitar and based on the emotion it conveys, I look for the story that best fits for that feeling to be told in music!
In its formation, music reveals some insecurities and uncertainties that it had in life, in addition to the difficulties of living with this disease that affects so many people. Much is said today about the use of music as therapy, in the case of “O Pior de Mim”, did it have a positive effect on your own life?
Without a doubt, “O Pior de Mim” was the key point for a very difficult moment, I was lost at the time, it had been a long time since I had written anything, so one day alone in my room, I sat down in front of the keyboard and started randomly playing what I was feeling at the moment. I remember that I got emotional with what I had played and the composition process was natural. I believe that, in music, this is often the case, something instantaneous that, in the moment you least imagine it, becomes the turning point and ends up being something unique and grand.
As a disease that affects millions of people, depression is something very serious, and it can even take the lives of many people with this disease. Unfortunately, it still gets into a lot of clichés, mostly in debates from people who are uninformed about its consequences. What was the most difficult moment to get that feeling onto paper?
I believe that was when I chose to talk about this topic, I was aware of how important and also a delicate subject it was, I have suffered from depression since I was 12 years old, and the moment I chose to work on it, many things happened around me. At the same time, that’s when I realized that, whether it’s a relative, a friend, or an idol, anyone could have this tragic ending, which left me worried and lost with the meaning of life. From then on, I started to look at it with different eyes, I saw that even though it was a much talked about subject, the difficulties to find support and face it remained the same. And I tried through music to bring a little of what I know millions of people feel.
His musicality is marked by a wide navigation between genres and musical styles, ranging from pop, alternative rock, emo, in addition to pop funk. In that case, do you have any form of specific definition for your music?
I’ve always liked the idea of music being something that unifies people, it’s normal for us to always want to fit labels, genres to fit a certain position within music, but in art, every form of expression is valid, I think that within what I seek to pass through feeling, energy, designating myself for a specific style is what matters the least.
Finally, regarding “O Pior de Mim”, what is the main message you want to pass on to your listeners and what has been the response you have received from it?
That there is always a way out, we should never give up! Even if difficulties exist, life is important, you are important and you should never forget that, if you are facing problems, seek help immediately! Know that this disease has a cure.
