In his musical journey, THAMI has been exploring new horizons since moving from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo. Recently, the singer-songwriter released ‘Deixa Queimar’, the first track from her next album. Now, she returns with ‘ Quando Acordar ‘, a single that addresses the experience of loneliness in a new environment. For THAMI, the song reflects not only the longing and lack of physical and emotional connections, but also the journey of learning and personal growth when facing solitude. ‘Como Acordar’ is a preview of the artist’s next album, which promises to further explore life’s processes and experiences. The release is scheduled for this semester, and THAMI can’t wait to share her music with the world.
What was the transition process like from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo in search of your musical dream?
I would say it still has been, I still feel within this transition. It’s very difficult to have to give up being close to the people you love, your home, your place, to go live in an unknown place with no support network. But I really believe in what brought me to São Paulo, so I try to focus on my studies, on producing the tracks and building and continuing to build a solid career.
“Deixa Queimar” and now ” Quando Acordar ” are singles that explore deep themes, such as surrender and loneliness. What is the main message you want to convey through these songs?
The album’s message is about the tangle of paths that is real life, it’s about doing things with fear, it’s about feeling insecure, lonely but believing in the process. It’s about returning to houses to move on to others, it’s about not giving up and being resilient. It’s a maze.
What was it like working with producer Julio Raposo on your new work? What were the most striking aspects of this collaboration?
Julio is a genius. I’ve been a fan of his for many years and it was a dream to collaborate. I think we had an incredible synergy, he understood exactly what I wanted to convey and produced an excellent production. He’s from Rio and now I’m in São Paulo, so it really impacted me that I only had 2 meetings with him to make this track. We were very accurate.
“When I Wake Up” addresses the theme of loneliness and vulnerability. How would you describe your personal journey in dealing with these feelings throughout the creation of the song?
I think music connects and intersects with me all the time. That’s why it’s so profound, because they are real and recent experiences. I have learned to deal with longing, loneliness, to transform this within myself and these feelings need to come out somehow. I think there was no better way to express them other than through music, and that’s how I did it.
You mentioned that the video for ” Quando Acordar ” was recorded on the same day as the first single. What was the experience like filming both clips on the same day?
Yes, we recorded 3 clips on the same day. It was crazy. But I’m an independent artist, so time is money and money is always the big issue in my situation. I would not be able to afford several days of rental and production. I needed to optimize my time to fit within the budget I had. And it was incredible! A competent and focused team. The result was beautiful.
To what extent did moving to São Paulo influence your music and creative process?
I think as a whole. I came here because I believe that São Paulo offers me more possibilities than Rio, not that it’s guaranteed, but I have more chances. So I focused on that. And being alone here also brings me more focus, I study more, I seek more, I dive into myself and my loneliness. It is a painful experience but one that brings eternal and lasting fruits.
Your album will be released this semester. What can fans expect from this new project? Is there a specific message you want to convey through this album?
I’m very excited for this record. He has so much of me. It has my vulnerability but it also has my strength and will to win. The main message is to enjoy the process and never stop. It may be that you get out of the maze of life and succeed but you may die trying and never find the way out and we need to deal with this possibility and still be happy.
How would you describe the sound and style of this new album in comparison to your previous work?
I think it’s a deeper dive into soul pop, but it brought a lot of Brazilianness too. It’s very different from all the other work.
How important is music in your life, especially as a means of expressing your emotions and personal experiences?
Music became my life goal. I have always been an artist and I can say that I don’t know how to be anything else. Music is my form of expression, it’s what gives me a voice. It makes me feel and helps me get it out, without it there is no way to survive. Now I seek to have a dignified life through it.
Besides music, are there other aspects of your life or art that you would like to explore or share with your fans in the future?
I love dancing, it was my first artistic and professional training, I have been a tap dancer for over 10 years and I really want to be able to explore this within my music in what I hope will be a near future.
