How did you prepare to play the role of Roman governor Pontius Pilate in The Passion of the Christ of New Jerusalem?
I’m still preparing to play Pontius Pilate. Even though it is a character that is already well defined in so many stories, in so many versions that have already been told, as it is a show that has a track already recorded, preparation now has to do with memorizing what was recorded with the pauses, the times and everything. It’s not dubbing because we’ll talk about it, but it has to match the audio, be in sync. So, the preparation is being more technical than considering the character conception.
How important is this role and this show for you as an actor?
In addition to this presentation being a challenge, as it is different from anything I have ever done, there is a very strong personal issue because my grandmother always wanted to watch it while she was alive and never was able to. So, participating in this show has a special taste for me. From somewhere she will watch.
You are currently on air in the rerun of “As Aventuras de Poliana” on SBT. What was it like revisiting this character and this story?
In fact, when we made the film it was a little after we finished recording the soap opera, so the character was still very alive, very fresh, it wasn’t any effort.
“The Adventures of Poliana – The Movie” is coming to Prime Video . What can fans expect from this screen adaptation?
You can expect a very well told story, a very well directed film by Claudio Boeckel . The script is also cool, it tells about growing pains, about the phase of leaving adolescence and entering adulthood. So it’s a film that is fun and touching, it talks about friendship and its importance. It’s a really cool film!
Plus, you’ll be in the third season of “Dom” on Prime Video . What can you tell us about your role in this series?
I play the TV presenter who finds himself unwittingly involved in Dom’s story and what happens next, I can’t reveal.
With such a diverse career, what are the challenges of switching between TV, film and theater projects?
In fact, it is time. Fit the dates and times so you can do it with peace of mind. Although from an artistic point of view it’s good to be playing two different characters in two different works, like cinema and theater, TV and theater, anyway… it may seem hard to believe, but in a way one ends up helping the other.
Throughout your career, you have participated in a variety of productions. Is there one that was particularly memorable for you?
There are several productions that were remarkable, mainly due to the success they had and the recognition they brought, among these I can mention “Xica da Silva” (Manchete), “Pérola Negra” (SBT), “O Clone”, “Duas Caras” and “Freedom, Freedom” (Globo). Clovis from “The Prophet” was also remarkable.
How do you see your contribution to the Brazilian artistic scene over the years?
I don’t know how to answer that question, I don’t have that perception and that vision.
How do you manage your work-life balance, especially with such a busy schedule?
I disconnect very easily from the world. (laughs) I’m not attached to my cell phone, sometimes I don’t look at it, I just put it down, I don’t have this thing about always having my cell phone by my side. This helps me sometimes to have a little peace of mind to put my ideas in order.
