Artist performs musical tribute to the Queen of Brazilian Rock in her first year of death
Minas Gerais singer and songwriter Roberto Trevisan embraced the challenge of paying tribute to Rita Lee, the Queen of Brazilian Rock, whose legacy is permeated by transformative elements that fed and shaped the dreams (and rebellion) of an entire generation. In her composition entitled “Patron Saint of Freedom”, Trevisan dares to express her admiration for Rita Lee, who defied the moralistic and conservative wave of the time, in addition to boldly, vehemently and bravely confronting the country’s dictatorship and patriarchal norms.
“Patron Saint of Freedom” reveres the artist for her transformative contribution to music and society and features a special appearance by former chacrete Rita Cadillac.
Trevisan, known for his compositions that praise nostalgic Brazilian figures, highlights in this song the facet of Rita Lee as an animal defender. With captivating verses and a chorus that incites joy, the artist joins forces with Rita Cadillac to form an ode to the national rock diva.
The choice of Rita Cadillac for this tribute was due to the long-standing friendship between the two artists, which resulted in the recording of ‘Rita canta Rita’ by Cadillac, with songs selected by Rita Lee herself. The recording of “Padroeira da Liberdade ” took place at Roosevelt Studios in New Jersey.
The music was produced by former Bon Jovi bassist Dan Skye, responsible for mixing, editing and mastering.
By uniting their voices, Trevisan and Rita Cadillac convey all their emotion and joy through music. This union, punctuated with irreverence, brings the tribute and vibe of one of the main (and most beloved) rock singers, revolutionary, immortalized, whose iconic image, with her straight hair, bangs and dyed red, remains alive in the collective memory.
The release of “Padroeira da Liberdade” represents a celebration of Rita Lee’s life and career, as well as a tribute to her artistic trajectory and her contribution to Brazilian music.
