Kennedy Garcia, known for her role as Felicity on the soap opera Days of Our Lives, stands out as one of the leading actresses with Down syndrome, challenging norms in both fashion and entertainment. The first model with the condition to work for American Girl, Kennedy has appeared in campaigns alongside big names and in TV series such as This Is Us and 9-1-1. She is also deeply involved in social causes as a speaker and activist, proving that talent and perseverance go hand in hand.
Your journey began as a model and you soon became the first person with Down syndrome to represent American Girl. What was it like for you to experience this historic moment and realize the impact this achievement had on representation?
It was actually so cool. I loved working for them and was already a huge fan of their dolls at the time! I still have several of them! I love that American Girl is so inclusive!
You’ve starred in iconic series like 9-1-1 and Days of Our Lives. What has been your most challenging role so far and what do you enjoy most about bringing different characters to life?
Days for sure because it moves so fast, but I love it! I’ve loved getting to know my character Felicity over the last year and hope that she will get more screen time and a great storyline with some drama very soon!
In addition to acting and modeling, you’ve become a sought-after speaker, speaking to young people about inclusion and friendship. What moves you most about sharing your story with so many people?
I love being able to share my story with others and speak about friendship and how to be friends with people with disabilities. I think sometimes other people can be unsure of how to talk to us, but it’s so easy! Just go over and say hello. It can be the start of a beautiful friendship!
You have overcome cancer and continue to spread joy and energy in everything you do. Where does this strength to transform challenges into inspiration come from?
I think my whole life has just been powering through. My first surgery was when I was 6 months old and I’ve had 30 since then, so I just learned to roll with whatever comes and keep fighting. I hope to help others do the same thing!

With 10 years of experience as a competitive dancer, how does dance influence your performance and your presence in front of the cameras?
Dance will always be my first love. I dance everywhere – Down the hallways on set and in between takes, and I try to get the other actors to dance with me. Sometimes they do. It just makes me happy and relaxes me. I like to teach people how to dance too, but sometimes they can’t keep up with me! Ha!
You use your visibility to support important causes, such as childhood cancer and Down syndrome. What does it mean to you to be able to give back and help others through your work?
I always want to give back to important causes that mean the most to me. Obviously Down syndrome and Leukemia will always be forefront causes in my life as well as organizations that promote inclusion like Best Buddies. I always want to use my platform for good.
With so many amazing projects under your belt, what are your next dreams and career goals? Any special roles or projects you would like to pursue in the future?
I just finished a super fun movie called Saving Buddy Charles with a great cast! I’d love to do more movies or another show and of course see Felicity get into some mischief on Days.
