Made up of Marcella Precise and Terence Abney, Lady And A Tramp have built a career defined by versatility, moving across scoring, songwriting, collaborations, and original projects with a strong sonic identity. In this interview, the composer duo reflects on the idea of being “Sonic Architects,” the challenge of storytelling through music, and the current era of creative expansion shaping projects like YaaY You and Lunchboxx.
How would you define the duo’s artistic identity today?
Today, Lady And A Tramp is all about being “Sonic Architects.” We see ourselves as world-builders who connect the classic music textures we grew up on with the digital future. Whether we’re working on building our Brands and IP’s or through LAAT Digital Creative, our identity is built on storytelling that feels as comfortable in a dark cinema as it does at a concert, or diving into an animated universe.
What does your creative process look like when building such different sonic worlds?
It all starts with the vibe and the bones. Because we’re always learning and we’ve spent years mastering everything from R&B, Hip-Hop to Pop, we approach every project by looking at the foundation first.
For a film score, we start by looking for the emotional “spark” of the scene.
For a song, it’s about the “pocket”—that groove that makes your head nod.
We treat sound like it’s something you can touch, layering different textures and colors until the music feels strong enough to carry the story.
What have collaborations taught you about adaptation and creating in partnership?
Working with icons and major labels has taught us that listening is a superpower. Collaboration isn’t about forcing your style on someone else; it’s about being a mirror that helps an artist see their own vision more clearly. Whether we are directing a live show for legends or writing with a new artist, the best work happens when you’re flexible. You have to know when to turn up the energy and when to give space to other voices in the room and when to let the music breathe.
What draws you most to the challenge of storytelling through sound?
Sound is the emotional glue that holds a story together. What draws us to film and television is the subconscious impact. You can tell a viewer a character is in danger with a single synth hit, or make them feel nostalgic with a specific string part. Sound is the ultimate world-building tool because it bypasses the eyes and goes straight to the soul. It’s the “vibe” that makes a dystopian city feel real or a cosmic adventure feel grounded.
What do projects like YaaY You and Lunchboxx reveal about your creative moment?
These projects represent our “Expansion Era.” We’ve been blessed with Grammy-nominated and platinum success, and now we’re putting all that winning energy into our own ideas. We’re in a moment of total creative freedom, taking the high standards we’ve always had and using them to tell our own stories.
The YaaY You Brand is a huge part of this, focused on:
- Empowerment: A core mission to celebrate who you are and that “Yes, You Can” spirit.
- Generational Synergy: Creating things that parents and kids can both get excited about.
- High-Vibe Visuals: Using bright colors and uplifting music to give people an instant boost.
- Community: Building a space where other creators feel inspired to start their own thing.
- Lifestyle: Making positivity a part of people’s everyday routine.
How did Lunchboxx come together, and what excites you most about it?
Lunchboxx is the ultimate expression of our fully integrated media ecosystem. It’s a space where music, collectibles, merch, visuals, and storytelling don’t just sit next to each other—they move as one living organism. We’ve built a universe where the story dictates the sound, and the sound evolves the story.
What excites us most is that the characters are actual, chart-ready artists. With original releases like “Jumpin’ Off” and “We Dem Ones,” the music is designed to compete at the highest level of the industry. We are introducing the world to Earth’s official Ambassadors of Music:
- Diana Starluxe: Radiant and “Main Character energy”.
- I.F.I: The AI hybrid bringing the digital edge.
- Pay Per View (P.P.V.): The human heart of the group.
- Professor Riggs: Their ever-evolving & grounding force
This universe is being brought to life by a stellar vocal cast, including veteran voice artists like Hasib K McNealy alongside fresh, exciting newcomers. It’s a cosmic journey that feels incredibly personal. There will be surprise guest voices of cultures that need to be heard, just like we have in the mini-clips, such as DJ Maseo of De La Soul, Ryan Lane Of Koffee Brown and Singer/Sneaker Culture influencer Tiona Deniece.
What kinds of stories or artistic experiences do you still dream of exploring?
The dream is to keep pushing the limits of how we experience media. We want to see the Lunchboxx universe become something the world enjoys having fun conversations about and recognizes as a brand. We’re also big on building an “educational bridge”. Showing the next generation of creators how to handle the business side of things, like sync, publishing, brand licensing and the business of being a creator. The next chapter is all about legacy.
