The band Radio Front shows another side of their heavy sound with the single and video “ SummerFalls ”. This folk ballad shows the intensity of his interpretation in a song that portrays the feeling of security when being loved.
To pave the way for its next phase, Radio Front turned to a song written by vocalist Felipe Nova at the age of 15. What was a “drawer” composition came to light with the encouragement of producer Luiz Freitag , who insisted that it be included in the repertoire and produced as soon as possible. Luiz also collaborated as an instrumentalist, exploring with the group influences from admired artists such as Bon Iver , Novo Amor and Julien Baker.
The video for “ SummerFalls ” was directed by Felipe Nova himself and was recorded in a sunflower field in the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The idea is to convey the feeling of peace and tranquility that the music evokes.
Radio Front was formed in 2017 by Felipe Nova (vocals and guitar), Kacz (guitar), Thales (bass) and Leo Bourseau (drums). The group combines influences from alternative rock, punk, stoner and grunge with a touch of folk. Live, Radio Front is known for its energetic shows. The group has performed at several festivals and iconic concert venues, such as Circo Voador in RJ and on the live music program Kulaks Woodshed , shown on KCET PBS, which has hosted artists such as John Densmore , drummer for The Doors.
After releasing their debut album, “Into The Rain ” (2018) and a series of singles, the musicians are preparing the ground for the release of an EP. “ SummerFalls ”, which will soon be accompanied by a tour, is available on the main music platforms and the clip is on the band’s YouTube channel.
” SummerFalls ” represents a sonic shift for Radio Front. How would the band describe this new musical phase?
I can’t say if it’s a new phase, but it was certainly an aspect explored, a creative transition with the new members. Things that have always been in the band’s creative range and in references such as Bon Iver and Novo Amor. It was a song that Felipe Nova had written when he was 15 and that he always played at certain gatherings. Our producer, Luiz Freitag , a big fan of folk music , made this proposal to delve into the folk aspect of this song. Which doesn’t differ much from the others, as the theme of romance and nostalgia is permeated in this EP, ‘ Leaving Memories’. However, the next ones will be more rock ballads.
The single has a unique story, being a composition written by vocalist Felipe Nova at the age of 15. How did this song resurface and what was the influence of producer Luiz Freitag in the process of bringing it back to life?
I think the first part answers the second. Luiz always liked the song, but Felipe never imagined himself playing it with the band. The new members, Thales Ramos and Matheus Kacz , supported the idea. Marcelo, who was the bassist at the time, made this last recording before leaving the band. He contributed creatively with pads and some acoustic guitars.
Felipe mentioned that ” SummerFalls ” marks a transitional moment in the band’s career. What are the main sounds or influences that the band is exploring now?
It’s not like putting on the brakes on rock, but rather expanding into aspects beyond it, although it’s nothing we’ve ever thought about doing or playing. Radio Front has always approached emotions in a very intense way, and we decided to explore sensitivity from another angle, more delicately.
The video for ” SummerFalls ” was recorded in a field of sunflowers, conveying a feeling of peace. How was the location chosen and how does it complement the atmosphere of the song?
Felipe shares: ‘I started researching places you normally imagine when you’re in love, because I’m experiencing it now, in love with the actress in the video. After years of friendship, we met again and now we are together. For me, being in love is synonymous with lightness and small gestures. The trips I took with her were recorded with a handheld camera, capturing authentic feelings and images. The filming was carried out by just the two of us, with one camera, in a field near Magé, in Rio de Janeiro.
Radio Front has an energetic live presence and has performed in notable venues . How does the band adapt this energy to studio recordings, and specifically to a folk ballad like ” SummerFalls “?
This is a work of perfection carried out by Luiz Freitag . He immerses us in a delicate atmosphere in the studio and explores the original feeling of this song. Live, she becomes a little more energetic. We’re looking forward to releasing the live recording we made before the end of the year, which will be made available alongside the full EP release.
The video for ” SummerFalls ” features actress Yasmim Santanna, who is also the daughter of Dedé Santana. How did this collaboration happen and what was the experience of working together?
Yasmim and Felipe met during the recording of the video ‘ Expose Me’, where they began a friendship. Years later, they met again, fell in love and today live together. The atmosphere of the clip perfectly reflects the gentle passion present in their relationship. The clip was produced exclusively by them, with the coloring carried out by a friend, Tina Cardoso.
In addition to being an actress, Yasmim Santanna is a model and presenter. How did her participation add to the visual narrative of ” SummerFalls “?
Yasmim’s contribution was significant, especially considering her extensive experience in theater and acting studies. Since ‘ Expose Me ‘, we have been deeply impressed by his dedication and dedication to any audiovisual project, standing out for his impeccable interpretation. This expertise and passion were fundamental to enriching the work.

This song has a deep sensitivity. It was recorded in a way that emotionally stripped all the band members bare, revealing a rare and authentic level of vulnerability. This delicacy makes the experience of the music almost palpable, allowing you to feel it deeply. Even if the words are not completely understood, the emotion conveyed is clearly and intensely perceived.
With the release of ” SummerFalls ” and preparations for the EP, what are Radio Front’s next steps and plans, especially considering the prospect of a future tour?
We have already performed on grand and exciting stages, such as Circo Voador, but for this EP, we opted for a more intimate style. We recently filmed a show that included all the songs from the EP, as well as old songs, with the aim of sharing this energy online. At the same time, we are working on composing a new album with the new band members. Now, we are expanding our creativity, also composing in Portuguese.
