Born in the capital of São Paulo, Brunna Bernardy was introduced to music from an early age, influenced by her parents, both musicians. Despite being born in São Paulo, Brunna spent her childhood in Monte Mor, where she began to explore her musical talent in the local church choir. It was on stage, however, that Brunna found her true passion, working as a backing vocalist for several artists and joining the girl band Banana Split, always dreaming of a solo project.
Having recently completed 18 years of career, Brunna Bernardy decided, in 2014, to start her solo career in country music. In 2016, she released her first solo album, with the song “Pode Ir” as the flagship, celebrating the launch in style at Villa Country, one of the biggest country clubs in the country. In 2019, Brunna released the single “Foca na Gente”, followed by “Papai do Ano” in 2020, a tribute to solo mothers that gained prominence in the media for its social appeal.
Recently, Brunna spent a year in Goiânia, recording her latest single, “Batimentos”, a song about a couple separated by the borders between Brazil and Spain. Her solo career took her to perform in Brazil and to stand out internationally with tours in Europe, the United States and Canada. In March 2024, Brunna released “A Vida Tem Dessas”, a song composed by her and recorded in Holambra, with the participation of her children, Angelina and Lorenzo. Brunna Bernardy continues to enchant audiences with her striking voice, friendliness and stage presence, consolidating herself as a force in the country music scene.
You grew up in a musical environment with your parents playing on their porch. How did this early influence shape your passion for music and your decision to pursue a career as a singer?
I believe that every child is a mirror of their parents. She listens, feels and learns. Everything offered in childhood has the power to determine the future. They gave me a passion for music! It couldn’t be any different for me. This passion made its home in me. I couldn’t have chosen any other path than music. For a while, I even tried, but the music always spoke louder. It will always be the music! It’s part of me!
Their latest single, “Batimentos”, has an emotional story about a couple separated by the borders between Brazil and Spain. How did the inspiration for this song come about and what message do you hope to convey to the public?
This song is written by a great friend and talent, Gabriel Vitto. He sent me this song when I was still living in Spain, and at the time I saved it for the right moment! I knew that one day I would record it… “Beats” portrays a love story made difficult by borders! This happens a lot! Long-distance love is a very common topic! I’ve experienced a love like that myself! But when you really want it, there is no distance that wins! Many people identified with this song!
You spent a significant amount of time in Goiânia, known as the birthplace of country music, recording your most recent work. How has this experience influenced your art and musical identity?
I spent approximately a year in Goiânia, and it was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life! Living so closely the culture of what I do, what I love! Goiânia breathes country music! There I met the best producers, singers and composers in the country! It was a laboratory that I will keep for the rest of my life! I learned a lot!
“A Vida Tem Dessas”, a song of his own composition, was recorded in Holambra and features the participation of his children. What was it like involving your family in this project and how important was this moment for you as an artist?
Life has these things, it closes a musical trilogy that began with “Foca na Gente”, a song that tells my love story at the time, followed by “Daddy of the Year”, which tells the disappointment phase of the same relationship, dedicated to all solo mothers, and concludes with “A Vida Tem Dessas”, which describes the overcoming phase! These lyrics are beautiful and send a positive message to divorced women with children! It’s an emotional tribute I made to my children, Lorenzo and Angelina! And being able to immortalize this with their participation in the music video was very exciting.
In addition to your musical career, you were also featured on television, participating in the reality show “A Grande Conquista”. What was that experience like and how did it contribute to your growth as an artist?
I’m driven by challenges, and accepting to participate in a reality show says a lot about Brunna Bernardy’s personality. I’m fascinated by the new, the unusual… I have to confess that I don’t have the typical reality profile. I’m not one to get involved in unnecessary clashes! But it was an incredible experience! I met wonderful people that I will cherish for life! I gained a lot of followers! Naturally, my work exposes this and great opportunities have arisen!
You have already had the opportunity to tour Europe, the United States and Canada, gaining international fans. What is it like for you to see your music cross borders and connect with different cultures?
The realization of a dream and the certainty that I am on the right path! Being able to take my art and my culture so far is indescribable! Right now, I’m in Canada on my second Toronto tour! I am very grateful to God for this opportunity! The Brazilian community on all my tours always welcomes me with great affection! I’m very grateful!
What are the challenges and rewards of balancing your personal life with your music career, especially as a mother of two children?
I face daily challenges in balancing my profession with my personal life. For a single mother full of will to live, this is almost a superpower. But when we want, we find a way and make time! Everything I do, I do with great affection and desire. I’m very intense! So I do my best to make sure I don’t miss anything. I have a support network that helps me with this mission: my uncles, my brother and a nanny who accompanies me. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to produce half of what I do!
How would you describe the musical style and message you want to convey through your songs? Is there a particular theme or feeling that you seek to explore in your compositions?
I’m a country singer and all my songs tell stories, many of them are my own experiences! I like to transmit this energy through my songs and I believe that people can feel and identify with them. Even though I don’t consider myself an excellent composer, all the songs I recorded reached many people and I received very positive feedback. These are songs made with great sincerity! Everyone has experienced a great love, everyone has been disappointed by a great love, and we all try to overcome these disappointments. These are universal themes.
Looking to the future, what are your plans and goals in music? Is there a specific project you’re looking forward to sharing with your fans?
Lately, I’ve been going through a different phase. I’m interested in recording happier and more irreverent songs. My personal seasonality goes hand in hand with my musical expression! You can expect a more lively and dancing Brunna in future projects.
What is your relationship with your fans like and how do they influence your work? Is there any message or advice you would like to pass on to those following in your footsteps in the music industry?
I maintain a very close relationship with my fans, I always try to respond on social media and promote meetings with some of them! I believe they are key pieces to the success of any artist. An art without someone to admire it, someone to consume it, is obsolete. It’s incredible to know that people you don’t even know exist, from different parts of the country and even the world, admire you and root for you! This is priceless!
For artists just starting out in their music careers, the first piece of advice may seem like a cliché, but it’s essential: never give up on your dreams! Believe in yourselves! You will always be his biggest supporters! Do everything with love! Always seek to evolve professionally! Study, expand your horizons and trust in God! He is the one who guides the star that will shine!
