In the vibrant Brazilian music scene, a new star is born who promises to enchant with his mix of dreams and boldness. Known for her diverse artistic metamorphoses, SIRENA, artistic name of a talented singer and songwriter from Rio, emerges from the depths of Grajaú, north of Rio de Janeiro, to reveal her new project to the world. Inspired from a young age by reggaeton and the mythology of mermaids, she found music as the perfect expression for her lyrics in Spanish and Portuguese.
SIRENA’s first single, titled “La Sirena”, will be released on an auspicious date: her birthday, June 5th. For her, this date is not just symbolic, but marks the beginning of a new era in her life and career. The track, composed after a creative insight, combines captivating melodies with a production that preserves the original voice captured at the moment of inspiration, adding a touch of authenticity to her work.
In “La Sirena”, SIRENA explores her fascination with the mythological being of maritime legends, symbolizing mystery, seduction and feminine power against life’s challenges. Directed by Rafa Costakent and Pepe Costakent, the music video involves the artist in an atmosphere of low lights and intense colors on the beach, personifying the seductive and mystical aura that she seeks to convey.
Produced by Ariel Donato and with the collaboration of Feyjão and Júlio Araújo, “La Sirena” represents not only a milestone in SIRENA’s career, but also the promise of a complete album that promises to conquer the world with its unique fusion of rhythms and engaging lyrics . With a dream team behind the project, the artist is preparing to take the perreo of reggaeton to new heights, showing the public her versatility and passion for music.
SIRENA, you had several artistic identities before finding your true style. Can you tell us more about that journey and how it shaped who you are today as an artist?
I’ve already studied Tourism, Nutrition, Physical Education… I’ve worked in a store, gym… I think everything I’ve experienced has prepared me for now. Nothing happens by chance, and I’m grateful for all my versions. But today, I feel more and more complete. Music has always been my biggest dream and purpose. Making this happen is so beautiful!
Reggaeton is a genre you’ve heard since you were little. What attracted you most to this musical style and how does it influence your music and composition?
I am in love! It’s a style I’ve always connected with… I feel like I can be myself… It’s hard to explain. It’s danceable, engaging, fun. I can talk about love, suffering, empowerment… I feel free to explore all my creativity.
Her first single, “La Sirena”, combines elements of dreams, superstition, mythology and sensuality. What inspired this mix and how is it reflected in the song and video?
I wanted to make a song about the mythological being “mermaid”. It’s an archetype that I’ve identified with since I was little… The mermaid is pure magic, sensuality and strength. I wanted to mark the beginning of my career by telling a little about this story because it is part of who I am. Everything in the song was designed to convey this vibe, and we recorded the video on the beach, at dusk/night, to create more mystery. I am completely in love with everything we did!
You mentioned that the track “La Sirena” was composed after an insight and that the initial recording made on the cell phone was kept in the final production. Can you tell us more about this process and the reason for this decision?
At the time of composition, I was immersed in the music and everything I wanted to convey with it. The decision to keep the original voice came from there… the interpretation and the vibe I managed to achieve at that moment. I have a team that works with me and we all agree to maintain it. I found it outrageous!
The video for “La Sirena” directed by Rafa Costakent and Pepe Costakent is visually striking. What was the vision behind the production of the video and how does it complement the message of the song?
I had the idea of recording the video on a beach at night with red lights. I passed this on to the directors, and they were able to take my idea to another level! It was impactful because everyone who worked on this clip is very talented. The choreography, the makeup, the costumes, the takes… everything came together perfectly. I loved the result so much that, for me, the song and the video are one and the same.
The collaboration with Ariel Donato, Feyjão and Júlio Araújo in the production of “La Sirena” seems to be true teamwork. What was it like working with these professionals and how did each one contribute to the project?
I am very privileged to have such an incredible team by my side. Nobody does anything alone. Júlio Araújo, my talented composing partner, managed to absorb everything I wanted to convey in the music and write along with me. FEYJÃO is my heartbrother and the album’s musical director; Without him, none of this would be happening. Ariel Donato, my friend and incredible producer, understands everything we want and makes the magic happen impeccably. Music is only like this because we created it together!
You sing in Portuguese and Spanish in reggaeton, which is relatively rare for Brazilian artists. How do you feel about bringing this combination of languages to the genre and how does it impact your songwriting?
Everything I do, I do because it is my truth. The intention is to show my personality to you. I’ve always loved Spanish and I’m passionate about singing in that language. I also like to explore the combination with Portuguese, which is a rich and very beautiful language. All my compositions were made organically…, but what do you mean? Sometimes, I start composing a song in Portuguese… at other times, the song is already in Spanish. Everything is natural. Brazil is a Latin country. I think it’s beautiful to join forces.
You talked about the importance of every woman feeling represented in your music. Can you explain to us how you seek to convey this message of female empowerment through your lyrics and performances?
I like feeling free to explore 100% of who I am. We have always been very pruned by society. And there, when I’m playing, having fun, valuing all the strength of the woman I am, I would really like other women to be able to see this power in them too. Because we are powerful.
With the release of “La Sirena”, you mark the beginning of a new era in your career. What are your next steps and what can fans expect from your album due out this year?
My fans can expect a lot of buzz this year. We will have some singles soon and the release of the full album too! I prepared everything with great care and I think everything is beautiful! I am really happy!
You described the beginning of your career as crazy, but full of happiness. What have been the biggest challenges you have faced so far and what do you most hope to achieve in the future?
Without a doubt, the biggest challenge has been myself. I’ve self-sabotaged a lot. Our mind can become our worst enemy. When we learn to deal with it, nothing can stop us. I hope that in the future I will be increasingly confident, courageous and strong. I hope we are all like this. There are no limits for those who dream with truth. My future will be beautiful because my present already is. I’m grateful for everything.
