Thor Koringa , a native of Rio de Janeiro currently based in Rio Grande do Sul, is about to become the two-time Rio Grande do Sul Jiu-Jitsu champion. After winning the title last year for FJJRS, he now competes for PRIME and remains undefeated in more than 20 fights in the South of Brazil, without conceding a single point to his opponents.
On the national scene, Thor has also been attracting attention. Despite his meteoric career, with only 1 year and 6 months competing, ” Koringa “, as he is known, is already a two-time champion of the Kids International by the IBJJE, the largest Jiu-Jitsu entity in the world, and champion of the Rio Summer Kids by the CBJJ.
Last week, Thor was crowned champion of the Mercosul GP, finishing all his fights and winning the organization’s belt in the final. His impressive performance attracted international interest, earning him an invitation to fight in the eighth edition of ADXC, the largest Grappling event in the world, which will be held on December 6th in Abu Dhabi.
For this new phase, Thor intensifies his training with the Alliance Mario Reis team, in Porto Alegre, under the supervision of teacher and leader Daniel Martins.
We spoke to Koringa about his career, achievements and goals for 2025:
Thor, what is this meteoric career in Jiu-Jitsu like for you, with so many achievements in such a short time? What is the secret?
“The secret is to train a lot, have discipline and dedication. I have a team of professionals who help me, and this is essential. I do physical training three times a week with Pedro Soares, I train Jiu-Jitsu six times a week, and João, my nutritionist, takes care of my diet. In addition, I have the support of Banca 7, which strengthens me with supplements and vitamins. This support is what every athlete dreams of having.”
Why did you decide to start competing and what are your goals with Jiu-Jitsu?
“I want to be the best in the world. When I started competing, my father told me it wouldn’t be easy. He said he would help me be the best, but that I would have to pay the price: I wouldn’t have the life of a ‘normal’ child and would have to live like an athlete. He asked me if that was really what I wanted, and my answer was yes. My goal is to be the best in the world and, when I get my black belt, open a Jiu-Jitsu school to give opportunities to less fortunate children.”
And what to expect from 2025?
“This opportunity at ADXC was a surprise and came sooner than expected, but you can’t turn something like that down. Next year, I want to keep training hard, perform well in December and stay in the organization. My goals include competing in my first Brazilian Championship, the Pan-American Kids Championship and the World Championship in Dubai at the end of the year. I want to win everything and dedicate my victories to my father, who is fighting cancer. I’m sure he will win this battle, and we will continue with our plans.”
Why the nickname ‘ Koringa ‘?
“Because I always have an ace up my sleeve!”
Who will be your opponent in ADXC8?
“I can’t reveal it yet; the organization will make that announcement. What I can say is that it will be an incredible fight against a rival that I respect a lot.”
