Known for starring in the teen series Mila no Multiverso, Laura Luz takes a new step in her career by making her film debut in the feature film MMA – Meu Melhor Amigo. In the film, which hits theaters on January 16, the 21-year-old actress plays Naomi, a young woman raised in the fighting world who helps in the relationship between a father and his autistic son. Acting alongside names such as Marcos Mion, Antônio Fagundes and Andreia Horta, Laura celebrates representation in the audiovisual sector and reinforces the importance of productions that address Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Laura, you started your journey as Mila in Multiverso and now you debut in theaters with MMA – Meu Melhor Amigo. How does it feel to see your career grow so quickly and face such different challenges?

Since “Mila in the Multiverse” I have faced great and satisfying challenges. I feel very grateful for each job I have achieved, because they have made me believe in myself more and more. The more challenging the objective for a given character, the more satisfying the result became.

You mentioned that Naomi has a firm strength and a special sweetness. What aspects of this character resonated most with you, and what was it like bringing such an inspiring figure to life?

I believe that she doesn’t fit into a “box”. No one is just docile or just strong. Being able to unravel the types of strength is what I like most when studying a character and we discover this when we identify where these characters feel good and welcomed.

Playing Naomi brought a sensitive perspective to Autism Spectrum Disorder. What did you discover during filming that changed your perception of how to relate to people who have this condition?

I discovered everything about ASD, to be honest. It was very enriching to learn more about the spectrum beyond the stigmas created by society. I hope the public also opens their eyes, just like I did.

Naomi’s relationship with her father in the film reinforces the importance of black representation in emotional stories. What impact do you think it would have on seeing more of these narratives explored in cinema?

Hoji ‘s character . I hope many people can relate to this relationship and most of all, be inspired by it.

You have worked alongside renowned actors such as Marcos Mion, Antonio Fagundes and Andreia Horta. How did these interactions influence your performance and what do you value most about this experience?

Even though I had few scenes with them, I had exchanges that remain in my memory and that is what is most valuable to me. It has always been a dream to meet these people, let alone work with them! I was able to express my admiration for each of them and learn from each look and gesture during the scenes.

With 25 acting courses under your belt and experience in award-winning series, what do you consider to be the biggest lesson learned from this journey so far?

My biggest learning experience has been to trust myself and my path more and more. Seeing that “Mila no Multiverso” won an award for best children’s series at the Produ Awards was like everything made sense! Knowing that the work of the team that made the project is being recognized is incredibly satisfying. I’m learning to trust more and more in the path that is being directed towards me and that is liberating.

Playing Naomi, you connected yourself to the world of fighting. Did this process spark a greater interest in combat sports in you, or is there another hobby you would like to explore more deeply?

Very much! I really want to one day take up a sport related to self-defense.

With so many important projects on the horizon, such as Assalto à Brasileira and Terapia em Família, what are your main goals as an actress in the coming years?

I believe that the series “Wander” will be released later this year, as well as the series Camila Baker, which was recorded last year. But if you want to watch some of my work, we have Dr4g0n, from Globoplay and Mila no Multiverso, from Disney+.
