Before fully committing to music, Ana Sky pursued an academic path in biology and embryology. Today, the singer brings the same curiosity that shaped her relationship with science into her creative process, using songwriting, performance, and sonic experimentation to observe the world, explore emotions, and transform personal experiences into music.
In the interview, Ana reflects on her decision to leave the laboratory for the stage, her collaboration with AC Burrell, and the musical identity she is developing by blending retro influences with a modern perspective. She also recalls the warm reception of her first European tour, encourages young women not to choose between their analytical and creative sides, and shares details about her forthcoming debut EP, new touring possibilities, collaborations, and an upcoming music video.

Your journey from biology and embryology to international stages is incredibly unique. At what point did you realize you needed to pursue music fully?
There were many moments that lead up to that decision, but I think one in particular that stands out was after I performed at the Hard Rock Cafe in San Diego while still in school for embryology. My instructor turned to me with a laugh after the show and said something to the effect of, “You’re not going to be an embryologist.” Her words stayed with me after I graduated from the program, and I think it was around then that I decided to put everything I have into my music career.
Your story challenges the idea that women have to choose between science and art, stability and ambition. How do you see the connection today between your STEM background and the artist you have become?
I still very much consider myself a scientist- I just work in a different kind of lab now. My background in biology still informs everything I do, and music is no exception. Now instead of reagents and microscopes, I get to experiment with my sound, my writing, and the overall message I share through them both. Biology is all about observing the world and asking questions to help understand what we perceive. In so many ways, that’s what I get to do with my music.
Working alongside AC Burrell and experiencing such a strong moment with songs like “King of Hearts” and “Loving You Is Hard,” how would you describe the sonic identity you are building right now?
It is such a blessing getting to work with someone like AC, and together we have been working to create a sound that transforms retro elements through a modern lens. My music is true to my life, and I do my best to be as vulnerable as possible while we’re writing. Ultimately my aim is to create a sonic world that is a raw and honest reflection of my heart while still incorporating playful elements.
This year has been marked by international touring, platform recognition, and major live performances. What has surprised you most about this new phase of your career?
I was surprised by how different the energy felt during the international part of our tour. This was my first time performing like that in Europe, and I wasn’t expecting to get such an overwhelmingly warm reception. I made lasting connections with the fans and the individuals I was touring with, and that’s definitely the thing I treasure most from the experience.
Your path can inspire many young women to trust unexpected directions in life. What message would you most want to share with girls who feel torn between their analytical and creative sides?
I would say that you can (and should!!) absolutely pursue both! In most cases your creative and analytical sides are not going to be mutually exclusive, so you don’t have to choose between two parts of who you are. In the event that you do decide to focus on one of them at any point, that definitely doesn’t mean you can’t pick the other up again when you feel called to do so.
After everything you’ve experienced recently, between the music, the road, and this international expansion, what do you feel is coming next for Ana Sky?
Right now I’ve been working to release my first EP, which I am super excited about. We also just shot a music video for one of the new songs that will be featured. Beyond that, I’m looking into touring opportunities and potential collaborations- all in all a lot of great things are in the works that I can’t wait to share.
