Dr. Sarina Occhipinti launches immersion course teaching doctors how to increase patient adherence to obesity treatment

Specialist combines pharmacology, metabolism, and neurobehavioral medicine in an in-person course designed exclusively for physicians, focusing on reducing treatment dropout and improving clinical outcomes.

The growing popularity of weight-loss medications has expanded therapeutic options for obesity but has also highlighted a persistent challenge in clinical practice: the difficulty of keeping patients engaged in long-term treatment. It is precisely this issue that Dr. Sarina Occhipinti, an internal medicine specialist, addresses in her “Obesity Immersion” event—a program designed exclusively for physicians.

As the founder of SARI DOCTORS, she maintains that successful obesity treatment depends not only on selecting the right medication but also on the physician’s ability to foster sustainable behavioral changes that ensure patient adherence to the therapeutic plan.

With 32 years of clinical experience, having trained over 4,000 doctors and treated more than 10,000 patients throughout her career, Dr. Sarina asserts that the greatest challenge in modern medicine lies not in making a diagnosis or recommending the best protocol, but in ensuring the patient stays in treatment long enough to achieve lasting results.

“Doctors learn to diagnose and prescribe, yet few are prepared to deal with human behavior. The major challenge is transforming knowledge into treatment adherence,” the specialist states.

During the three-day immersion, participants will gain access to a methodology built on three pillars: updates on obesity-related pharmacology, strategies to address metabolic slowdown, and neurobehavioral medicine techniques to strengthen treatment adherence.

According to Dr. Sarina, the program’s unique value lies in the integration of these areas. The goal is to provide tools that help patients move beyond relying solely on fleeting motivation and instead build permanent changes in their habits. Another topic to be addressed is the Neuro-obesogenesis Treatment Plan—a protocol developed by Dr. Sarina that combines pharmacological strategies, metabolic management, and behavioral techniques used in her clinical practice.

In a landscape where weight-loss medications have become more accessible and widely known, the specialist believes that a physician’s competitive edge lies in their ability to support the patient throughout the entire therapeutic journey.

“Medications are no longer the primary differentiator. Today, what truly makes a difference is keeping the patient committed to the treatment and helping them build changes that last in the long term,” she highlights.
