Skippa transforms love, complicity, and seaside inspiration into her new single, “Primavera” (Spring)

Skippa

Between the coastal breeze and the feeling of finding someone capable of transforming the way we see the world, the Paraná-based band Skippa found inspiration for a new phase in their musical journey. Released on October 20th, the single “Primavera” presents a more intimate and personal approach from the group, combining the swing of Brazilian pop reggae with influences of surf music and soul to translate feelings of affection, desire, and complicity. In an interview, the members talk about the experience that gave rise to the composition, the choice to explore love in a more sensitive way, and the construction of a sound that seeks to convey the lightness and warmth present in the song’s message.

At what point did that seaside experience begin to turn into music?

It was there, by the sea, that the first guitar chords and the first ideas for the composition began to emerge. That weekend, the conversations, and everything we were experiencing blended together and gave shape to the music. Sometimes, a song is born like that, from a special moment that awakens feelings and ends up becoming a melody.

How did you translate that feeling of belonging into lyrics, melody, and arrangement?

We wanted the music to convey this lightness, not just talk about it. We searched for an engaging melody, a pleasant rhythm, and arrangements that would bring this feeling of warmth, while maintaining Skippa’s musical identity.

What significance has the title “Spring” acquired within the history of music?

For us, spring represents what blossoms within us when something special happens. Sometimes, an encounter changes the way we see life and awakens new feelings. The song speaks a little about this, about how love can transform things in a simple yet profound way.

Why leave room for each listener to complete the song with their own memories of love?

Because each person has their own story. A song that stems from one of our experiences can evoke completely different memories in the listener. We like to leave that space open, so that everyone can find someone special there, a memory or a feeling that makes sense in their life.

How did Brazilian pop reggae, surf music, and soul contribute to the sound of “Primavera”?

We like this mix. Reggae brings the rhythm that’s part of our identity, surf music speaks to that coastal vibe, and soul adds a more sentimental expression. We combine these references naturally, without getting stuck in a single style, always seeking a sound that reflects Skippa’s essence.

How does “Spring” connect with the themes that Skippa has been working on since 2022?

Love, human relationships, and resilience are part of who we are. In “Primavera,” this appears in a more intimate and romantic way, through encounters and the transformations they bring about. It’s another chapter in our story, exploring new possibilities without losing the essence of the band.

How do you plan to build the visual universe of music on social media?

We want to create small narratives and images that convey the feeling of the music, without needing to explain everything. The coastline, the encounters, and the details that mark our experiences can help build this universe. The idea is to awaken sensations and let each person create their own connection with the song.

What phase of Skippa does this release herald for the public?

We are in a phase of hard work and maturation, with different projects being built. “Primavera” shows our more romantic and intimate side, while the next releases will present other perspectives of the band. We want to grow, reach new audiences and continue experimenting, without losing our identity. A little more about how Skippa builds its music.

When Nagha begins a composition, his experiences, feelings, and life lessons are often present in the first guitar chords. But when the music reaches the producer and musicians, each one also brings their own story and their own way of feeling and interpreting it.

We like to keep this process open, giving everyone space to contribute. We experiment, add to it, and refine it together until the music takes on Skippa’s identity and carries a little bit of each person involved. In this way, an individual experience can transform into something that many other people can identify with. A song is born from a story, but it comes to life when it encounters others.
