Nuna transforms disillusionment and maturity into strength in her new single “Vai Ver”

Nuna (Alexandre Chang)

The band Nuna will release the single “Vai Ver” on August 28th, a track that transforms the end of a one-sided relationship into a process of lucidity, rupture, and reclaiming one’s own story. With dense guitars, references to rock, pop punk, and pop, and an interpretation marked by emotional intensity, the group revisits the moment when old memories gain new meaning in the face of perceived selfishness and lack of reciprocity. In an interview, the band discusses the creative process behind the song, the evolution of their sonic identity, and how disillusionment can become a starting point for maturity and self-knowledge.

“Vai Ver” is about the moment when someone finally realizes that a relationship was marked by selfishness and a lack of reciprocity. At what point did you feel that this emotional awakening could become a song?

The turning point came when frustration gave way to clarity. We realized that continuing to rationalize the lack of reciprocity was far more exhausting than facing the truth. Transforming this perception into composition was the most natural way to organize the internal turmoil and give new meaning to the weight we were carrying.

The song revisits memories of the past from a new perspective, where previously innocent situations begin to reveal other intentions. How was it to translate this shift in awareness into lyrics, melody, and interpretation?

The construction was like looking in the rearview mirror with new lenses. The lyrics begin more contemplatively, reviewing the past with a certain perplexity, while the melody and arrangement gain intensity as resignation turns into a decision. In the vocal and instrumental interpretation, we sought precisely this contrast: the restrained tone of someone analyzing the scene versus the energy of someone choosing to close the cycle.

You define the track as the end of innocence in a one-sided relationship. What is liberating about stopping justifying the other person’s behavior and regaining control of your own story?

The liberating act lies in stopping the energy spent creating excuses for the other person’s behavior. When you stop justifying the other person, expectations crumble and the need for validation ends. The pain of the breakup still exists, but control of your own narrative returns entirely to your hands.

Musically, “Vai Ver” combines dense guitars, a groove of drums, and emotionally charged vocals. How did you seek to balance heaviness, melody, and vulnerability in this track?

The intention was to create a sound that mirrored the dynamics of the lyrics. The dense guitars bring tension and catharsis, while the drum groove provides the drive and firm stance that the music demands—preventing it from sounding merely melancholic. Vulnerability stands out in the harmonic pauses, where the voice is exposed.

Manu plays an important role in shaping the band’s melodies and lyrics. How does her voice help to bring emotional truth to a song about disillusionment, growing up, and heartbreak?

Manu delivers a raw and very honest vocal performance. In “Vai Ver,” she transitions from fragility to indignation without sounding caricatured. Her voice seeks the exact intention of each verse, making the listener feel the pain of disillusionment and the force of rupture in equal measure.

Producer Vini Nalon maintained the song’s structure but added guitar overlays and new ideas to the arrangement. What did this collaboration bring to the track’s diverse moods?

Vini had the sensitivity to preserve the core sound we brought to the studio, but added textural layers of guitar and arrangement details that amplified the contrasts. He helped to enhance the volume dynamics and moods of the track, creating peaks of intensity at just the right moments.

Nuna has been building a new phase since transitioning from the name Sem Meia, releasing albums like “Faz um Favor”, “Velha Jaqueta”, “Outro Lugar” and “Vozes”. How does “Vai Ver” fit into this process of reinvention and consolidation of the band’s identity?

“Vai Ver” synthesizes the maturation of this cycle. Since the transition from the name Sem Meia and the path traveled with “Faz um Favor,” “Velha Jaqueta,” “Outro Lugar,” and “Vozes,” we have been refining our sound and narrative. The new track consolidates a more visceral, direct, and conscious stance regarding the space the band wants to occupy.

Despite stemming from pain, the song seems to point towards self-knowledge and reconstruction. What feeling would you like to leave with those who listen to “Vai Ver” and recognize themselves in this story?

We want it to leave a feeling of relief and encouragement. We want the music to serve as a necessary release, but above all, as a reminder that ending one-sided cycles is not a loss, but rather the starting point for rebuilding one’s own worth.
